Fortuna Sittard vs Excelsior prediction, odds and how to watch

Philip Brittijn's 79th-minute strike gave Fortuna Sittard a 1-0 win at Willem II, condemning the hosts to a fourth defeat in their last five Eredivisie matches and leaving serious questions about their ability to compete at this level.

Ajax dominated every statistical category but could not hold on, with Excelsior scoring twice from minimal chances to earn a 2-2 draw at the Johan Cruyff Arena. Connor Maguire gives his verdict on a result that has no excuse.

Utrecht claimed a 2-1 victory at Excelsior in the Eredivisie despite being outworked for large portions of the match, with Dani de Wit's stoppage-time finish settling it after Aymen Sliti had equalised for the hosts.

Ajax put five past Fortuna Sittard at the Fortuna Sittard Stadion, with Julian Brandt, Thilo Kehrer, Davy Klaassen and Kasper Dolberg among the scorers in a dominant away display. Fortuna's consolation from substitute Anthony Descotte was nothing more than a footnote.

Fortuna Sittard came to Groningen, dominated possession and territory for ninety minutes, and still needed a Justin Hubner own goal in the 87th minute to seal a 3-2 win. FC Groningen competed harder than the scoreline suggests, but they could not hold what they had.

NEC Nijmegen have not kept a single clean sheet in their last ten Eredivisie matches. Fortuna Sittard have scored in every one of theirs. Sunday evening at 19:00 has the makings of a proper contest.

SC Heerenveen have not won in five Eredivisie matches and now face an Excelsior side that has scored 25 goals across their last ten. Someone has to stop the bleeding.

Fortuna Sittard host Twente on Saturday evening with both sides in decent nick, but the numbers behind Sittard's defence tell a worrying story. Twente arrive knowing exactly where to hurt them.
