Data Deletion Instructions
At SportSignals, we respect your right to control your personal data. This page explains how you can request the deletion of your account and any personal information we hold about you, including data obtained through third-party login providers such as Facebook.
This page is provided in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, and Meta's Platform Terms.
Your Right to Deletion
Under the UK GDPR, you have the right to request erasure of your personal data (also known as the "right to be forgotten"). You can ask us to delete your SportSignals account and all personal data associated with it at any time. This applies to information collected when you:
- Create an account using email, Google, Apple, or Facebook Login
- Sign up for our newsletter
- Use any interactive features on the platform
- Browse the site while logged in
How to Request Deletion
To request deletion of your account and data, email us at:
Use the subject line "Data Deletion Request" and include the following:
- The email address associated with your SportSignals account
- The name you registered under (if applicable)
- Which sign-in method you used (email, Google, Apple, or Facebook)
- A statement confirming you are the account holder requesting deletion
We may need to verify your identity before processing your request. This is to protect your account from unauthorised deletion by a third party.
What Happens After You Submit a Request
Once we receive and verify your request:
- Within 48 hours we will acknowledge receipt of your request
- Within 30 days we will permanently delete your account and all associated personal data from our active systems
- Within 90 days we will remove your data from backup and disaster-recovery systems, in line with our data retention schedule
You will receive a confirmation email once deletion is complete. If we are unable to fully comply with your request (for example, due to a legal obligation to retain certain records), we will explain why and confirm what data has been retained and for how long.
What Data Will Be Deleted
When you request deletion, we will remove all personal data we hold about you, including:
- Your account profile, login credentials, and authentication tokens
- Email address and any other contact information
- Newsletter subscription preferences and consent records
- Any user-generated content you have submitted
- Data received from third-party login providers (Google, Apple, Facebook), including your name, email, and profile identifier
- Activity logs and usage data linked to your account
Data We May Retain
In limited circumstances, we may retain certain information after deletion to meet legal obligations. Where this applies, we will retain only the minimum data necessary and for no longer than required. Examples include:
- Records required under UK tax, accounting, or gambling-related regulations
- Fully anonymised or aggregated analytics data that cannot be linked back to you
- Information relating to ongoing legal proceedings or disputes
Retained data will be stored securely and will not be used for any purpose other than meeting the relevant legal obligation.
Facebook Login: Revoking Access and Deleting Data
If you signed up or logged in using Facebook Login, Meta requires us to provide a clear process for deleting the data we received from Facebook. The process described on this page covers this requirement in full.
To revoke SportSignals' access to your Facebook account independently, visit your Facebook settings:
Settings > Security and Login > Apps and Websites on Facebook, or visit https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=applications
Revoking access through Facebook will stop SportSignals from receiving any new data from your Facebook account going forward, but it will not delete data we have already stored. To delete that data, please email us using the instructions above.
Other Third-Party Login Providers
If you signed in with Google or Apple and wish to revoke access separately:
- Google: Visit https://myaccount.google.com/permissions
- Apple: Go to Settings, then Apple ID, then Sign in with Apple on your Apple device
As with Facebook, revoking access through these providers will prevent future data sharing but will not delete data already stored by SportSignals. Use the email process above to request full deletion.
Your Other Data Rights
In addition to requesting deletion, you also have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Rectify any inaccurate or incomplete data
- Restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Data portability, meaning you can request a copy of your data in a structured, machine-readable format
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@sportsignals.com.
Complaints
If you are not satisfied with our response to a data rights request, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO):
- Website: https://ico.org.uk
- Telephone: 0303 123 1113
