GO Ahead Eagles 1-1 FC Groningen result, stats and report

NEC Nijmegen dominated the basics but could not convert their chances, and GO Ahead Eagles nicked a point through Perr Schuurs inside two minutes. A draw neither side deserved in the way they probably wanted it.

PEC Zwolle silenced the home crowd at FC Groningen with a thoroughly professional 3-0 victory, goals from Thom van Bergen, Jorg Schreuders and Tygo Land doing the damage in a display that was far more controlled than their recent results suggested.

GO Ahead Eagles dominated every statistic that mattered but could only rescue a 1-1 draw against FC Groningen at home, with Søren Tengstedt equalising in the 82nd minute after Brynjólfur Willumsson's first-half goal threatened to hand the visitors all three points.

Fortuna Sittard came to Groningen, dominated possession and territory for ninety minutes, and still needed a Justin Hubner own goal in the 87th minute to seal a 3-2 win. FC Groningen competed harder than the scoreline suggests, but they could not hold what they had.

AZ Alkmaar put five past GO Ahead Eagles at home in the Eredivisie, with Ro-Zangelo Daal grabbing a brace as the hosts controlled the game from start to finish. GO Ahead arrived with injury problems and left with their defensive standards exposed.

FC Groningen have conceded in every single Eredivisie match in their last ten, and Ajax arrive on Sunday having scored seventeen goals in their last five. This is not a good combination if you are from Groningen.

PEC Zwolle have shipped 28 goals in their last ten Eredivisie matches and now face a GO Ahead Eagles side that has scored in every single one of their last five. Something has to give, and the smart money says it is Zwolle's backline.

Two leaky defences, a recent head-to-head that ended 2-2, and both sides desperately needing three points. Saturday at De Adelaarshorst has the makings of a proper match.
