Brentford 3-0 Chelsea result, stats and report

Tottenham Hotspur won 2-0 at Chelsea thanks to a Mike Penders own goal and a late Mathys Tel strike, with the hosts reduced to ten men after Cole Palmer was sent off for a second yellow card in the 80th minute.

Brentford have drawn three of their last five Premier League matches and cannot stop conceding. Everton arrive low on goals and short on confidence. Something has to give on Monday night.

Chelsea have been all over the place in recent weeks and Leeds will fancy their chances of nicking something on Saturday. This is a fixture that could go several ways, and that alone tells you everything about where Chelsea are right now.

Cole Palmer's red card capped a chastening afternoon for Chelsea as Tottenham won at Stamford Bridge for the first time since 2018, with Xabi Alonso urging his forward to learn from a second disciplinary flashpoint in eight days.

Nicolas Jackson's brace against Manchester City extended his hot start at Aston Villa, with his minutes-per-goal and conversion rate already surpassing his Chelsea numbers. Pundits now call him an upgrade on Ollie Watkins, while a contrasting Garnacho loan situation shows Villa's recruitment is calculated, not reckless.

Alex Scott has rejected a new Bournemouth contract, leaving the England midfielder open to Liverpool and Chelsea interest in January. But with Chelsea simultaneously chasing Frenkie de Jong, Adam Wharton and Manu Kone, Scott's link is just one strand of a sprawling midfield wishlist.

Roberto De Zerbi insists Tottenham's medical staff are not to blame as nine players miss the trip to Stamford Bridge, where Spurs have won just once in 42 matches. Chelsea, meanwhile, have eradicated last season's disciplinary problems under Xabi Alonso, though doubts linger over deputy goalkeeper Mike Penders.

Chelsea's reported pursuit of Brighton's Yasin Ayari fits a well-worn pattern of raids on the Seagulls' recruitment pipeline, but the standout line in Thursday's gossip column is Arsenal's apparent willingness to sell Viktor Gyokeres just months after a £55m outlay.
