Tottenham Hotspur 2-3 Aston Villa result, stats and report

Tottenham Hotspur ended a miserable five-match winless streak with a 3-1 Premier League victory over Coventry, with James Maddison, Omar Marmoush, and Ben Davies on the scoresheet. Coventry showed moments of fight but lacked the basics to stay in it.

Aston Villa dismantled Fenerbahçe 6-0 at Villa Park in the UEFA Champions League, with Nicolas Jackson scoring twice in the first half and Ross Barkley adding a penalty and a goal after the break to complete a statement European night.

Dominic Solanke headed a stoppage-time equaliser to deny Manchester United all three points after Bryan Mbeumo had given Tottenham the lead, in a match that also saw Rodrigo Bentancur sent off for violent conduct.

Jamie Carragher says Youri Tielemans' struggles at Manchester United are a symptom of Michael Carrick's lack of compactness, not a form slump, a theory that looks vindicated after Gary Neville's pre-match warning and United's 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid.

A stoppage-time Dominic Solanke equaliser denied Manchester United victory over ten-man Tottenham, leaving Michael Carrick's side with their worst six-game Premier League start since 1986-87 and echoes of Erik ten Hag's sacking trajectory growing louder.
