Rayo Vallecano 2-1 Espanyol result, stats and report

Deportivo La Coruña bossed possession and created the better chances at RCDE Stadium but could not find a way through, leaving Espanyol to claim a point they barely deserved.

Jorge de Frutos scored twice and Unai López added a third as Rayo Vallecano produced a commanding 3-0 home win over Celta Vigo in La Liga. Celta failed to register a single shot on target and were completely outcompeted from first whistle to last.

Espanyol ended a run of four La Liga defeats with a smash-and-grab win at Villarreal, Leandro Cabrera's 60th-minute goal the difference despite the hosts dominating every attacking statistic.

Racing Santander came from behind to beat Espanyol 2-1 at home in La Liga, with Yassir Zabiri scoring the winner six minutes from time to give the hosts a desperately needed victory. Espanyol's wastefulness in front of goal and a string of yellow cards told its own story.

Deportivo Alaves have not won in five La Liga matches and have conceded eleven goals in that run. Espanyol arrive with problems of their own, but the opportunity is there for the taking.

Rayo Vallecano host a Levante side that cannot keep a clean sheet to save themselves, but cannot stop scoring either. Sunday's fixture at Vallecas has the makings of a proper contest.

Espanyol have not won in five La Liga matches and have conceded nine goals in that run. Getafe are not much better. Something has to give on Sunday.
