Luzern 2-4 Basel result, stats and report

St. Gallen took all three points at Basel despite being comprehensively outshot, winning 3-1 in a result that tells you everything about clinical finishing versus wasted opportunity. Basel created more, threatened more, and still lost. Unacceptable.

Grasshopper produced a clinical away performance to dismantle Luzern 5-1 at home, with Daniel Mikolajewski scoring twice and the visitors creating eight big chances in a thoroughly dominant display.

Xherdan Shaqiri scored twice in the second half to put the game beyond Luzern, as Basel ran out comfortable 4-2 winners in the Swiss Super League despite the home side hitting the woodwork and generating more shots overall.

Servette were reduced to ten men via a VAR card in the first half yet still managed to earn a point against a Luzern side that dominated every attacking statistic but could not find a winner.

Young Boys led twice and dominated large portions of the match but could not hold Basel out, as a 3-3 draw at home left points on the table and serious defensive questions unanswered.

Luzern ground out a 2-1 Swiss Super League win over Vaduz on Wednesday, with substitute Nando Toggenburger scoring a left-foot shot in the first minute of stoppage time to settle a match Luzern dominated but nearly let slip.

Two teams who cannot keep a clean sheet between them meet on Sunday. Something has to give, and the evidence says it will probably be both defences at once.

Lugano arrive at this Swiss Super League fixture with five straight wins and serious momentum. Luzern have not lost in five but have drawn three of them, and that tells you everything you need to know about who is doing what here.
