Westerlo 5-1 Antwerp result, stats and report

Westerlo claimed a deserved 2-0 victory at Sint-Truiden on Sunday, with Norman Bassette and Cisse Sandra scoring either side of half-time to leave the home side with nothing to show for 17 shots.

Union Saint-Gilloise were comfortable, clinical, and utterly in control at the Bosuilstadion, with goals from Mateo Biondic and Denzel De Roeve sealing a deserved 2-0 win over a shambolic Antwerp side reduced to ten men.

Antwerp produced a dominant away performance at Club Brugge, winning 3-1 in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday thanks to a brace from Hugo Vetlesen and a late goal from Jan Virgili. Club Brugge competed but their defensive basics simply were not good enough.

Westerlo beat Standard Liège 4-2 in the Belgian Pro League despite being second-best in possession and attacks for much of the match. Clinical finishing and a ruthless second-half performance did the job.

Sint-Truiden travelled to Antwerp and left with a 4-1 win that was as clinical as it was damning. Antwerp had the ball, the corners, and the attacks. Sint-Truiden had the goals.

Westerlo were taken apart at Mechelen on Saturday, conceding four without reply as Shunsuke Saito scored twice and the visitors offered almost nothing in return.

Westerlo had the ball, the shots, and the big chances to end their losing run. They came away with a draw instead. That tells you everything.

Westerlo head into Sunday's Belgian Pro League clash with three defeats from their last five and a defence that has shipped 14 goals in that run. Antwerp arrive with their own inconsistencies, but the head-to-head record tells a very clear story.
