Gent 2-1 Standard Liège result, stats and report

Westerlo beat Standard Liège 4-2 in the Belgian Pro League despite being second-best in possession and attacks for much of the match. Clinical finishing and a ruthless second-half performance did the job.

Hibernian had the ball, the chances, and the crowd, but Gent had the goals that mattered. A 90th-minute own goal from Miguel Chaiwa sealed a 3-2 win for the Belgians and ended Hibernian's European night in the worst way possible.

Standard Liège took all three points from Den Dreef with a 2-1 victory over OH Leuven, winning despite being outshot 22 to 5 and holding just 38% of possession. Casper Nielsen's early penalty and Dennis Eckert Ayensa's second-half strike proved enough.

Gent pulled off one of the results of the Belgian Pro League season, beating Club Brugge 2-1 thanks to a late Ibrahima Cissé header that silenced the form book and sent the home crowd into raptures.

Gent claimed all three points at Cercle Brugge thanks to Emmanuel Kakou's own goal in the 21st minute, with the hosts unable to convert their superior possession into a leveller. Connor Maguire gives his verdict on a damning afternoon for Cercle.

Tiago Araújo's right-foot finish seconds after half-time was the difference as Gent ground out a 1-0 win over OH Leuven, who offered little going forward and have now lost four of their last five in the Belgian Pro League.

Standard Liège host Sporting Charleroi on Sunday in a Belgian Pro League fixture that has genuine bite. Both sides are in form, the head-to-head is tight, and Charleroi have already beaten Standard this year.

Zulte-Waregem have not lost a home match in their last ten Belgian Pro League outings, but Gent arrive on Saturday having won all five of their most recent fixtures. Something has to give.
