Fortuna Sittard 3-1 SC Cambuur result, stats and report

Philip Brittijn's 79th-minute strike gave Fortuna Sittard a 1-0 win at Willem II, condemning the hosts to a fourth defeat in their last five Eredivisie matches and leaving serious questions about their ability to compete at this level.

ADO Den Haag controlled possession, created the better chances, and still could not win a home match. A goal from substitute Donát Bárány cancelled out Fabian Kvam's first-half strike, but a point does nothing to fix what is wrong at this club.

SC Cambuur put NEC Nijmegen to the sword with a commanding 3-0 victory, with Ilyes Hamache scoring twice and substitute Iwan Henstra adding a late third. NEC's wretched evening was compounded by four yellow cards and a defensive display that had no backbone whatsoever.

Ajax put five past Fortuna Sittard at the Fortuna Sittard Stadion, with Julian Brandt, Thilo Kehrer, Davy Klaassen and Kasper Dolberg among the scorers in a dominant away display. Fortuna's consolation from substitute Anthony Descotte was nothing more than a footnote.

NEC Nijmegen have not kept a single clean sheet in their last ten Eredivisie matches. Fortuna Sittard have scored in every one of theirs. Sunday evening at 19:00 has the makings of a proper contest.

SC Cambuur have shipped 14 goals in their last five Eredivisie matches and now face an AZ Alkmaar side that has not lost in ten. This is not a fixture for the faint-hearted, and the evidence points firmly in one direction.

Sunday's Eredivisie clash at PEC Zwolle pits two sides desperate for points against each other, with Cambuur yet to win in five attempts and Zwolle leaking goals at an alarming rate. Something has to give.

Fortuna Sittard host Twente on Saturday evening with both sides in decent nick, but the numbers behind Sittard's defence tell a worrying story. Twente arrive knowing exactly where to hurt them.
