They were at the home side were the more dangerous team in front of goal, despite having less of the ball. That tells you something about attitude and desire. There was also a VAR review involving Marcin Wasielewski in the second minute of added time, though it did not change the outcome. And Jakub Kolan, who had only come on as a substitute in the 87th minute, picked up a yellow card in the seventh minute of added time. Remarkable. On the pitch for minutes and already in the referee's book. That is not the attitude you want from a player coming on to see a game out.

Zagłębie finished with three yellow cards to Katowice's zero. That lack of discipline in the closing stages is something the manager will need to address. You are winning 2-0 and you give away a penalty in stoppage time. That is unacceptable. It should never happen.

Verdict

Zagłębie Lubin needed a win. They got one. They were the better side by most measures, they scored through Nowogoński and the excellent Kosidis, and they held on despite making life difficult for themselves in the final minutes. The penalty was a moment of sloppiness that should not have happened. The yellow cards in added time show a lack of composure and standards when the pressure was on.

But three points are three points. In this business, you take them. Zagłębie's previous five matches had brought one win, three draws and a loss. This win shows they can compete and grind out results when the attitude is right. They need to carry that into the next one.

Katowice will be frustrated. They had the ball. They had the attacks. But when you only create one big chance from 84 attacks, you have no right to win a football match. That is the cold reality of it.
