But here is the part that bothers me. Wieczysta had seventeen interceptions to Widzew's seven. They had more successful dribbles, eleven to seven. They were sharper when it came to competing for the ball in tight moments. And when it mattered most, in the final quarter of the game with Widzew ahead and a home win in sight, they found a way to compete and take something from the match.

Widzew's goalkeeper was kept busy enough, making three saves. Wieczysta's keeper made four. Neither side was comfortable at the back. Both teams conceded twice. Both teams had moments where the basics simply were not there.

Wieczysta's clean sheet record coming into this match was zero from their seven matches in the competition. Not a single clean sheet. Widzew, over their last ten, had kept three. And yet Widzew could not hold a one-goal lead with ten minutes to play. That is where accountability has to come into the conversation. Listen, Wieczysta deserve some credit for their attitude in this match. Down to ten men by cards in both instances, they kept competing. Milic's header at eighty minutes showed desire. You cannot take that away from them. But they also had three big chances missed, and they were second best for large portions of the ninety minutes. A point for them is a decent return given that.

Verdict

Widzew Lodz had the ball, had the attempts, had the lead going into the final ten minutes, and did not close the game out. That is a habit now, not an accident. The standards have to improve. The desire to hold a result, to see a match through, to do the basics under pressure. That is what separates sides who draw games from sides who win them.
