Paris FC 3-1 Monaco: Sinayoko Runs the Show as Paris FC Dismantle Monaco at Home

SportSignals Match Desk · Football analysis desk ·

Paris FC 3-1 Monaco. Write it down. Because that result was earned the old-fashioned way: desire, basics done well, and a forward who turned up when it mattered.

Lassine Sinayoko was the difference. Two goals before the break, both from right-footed finishes, and Paris FC had the platform they needed. Monaco had 56 per cent of the ball. They had 130 attacks to Paris FC's 76. And they lost by two goals. That tells you everything you need to know about the difference between possession and competing.

Sinayoko Does the Damage Before Half-Time

The first goal came in the 38th minute. Sinayoko finished from a right-foot shot, with Maxime Lopez picking up the assist. Six minutes later, right on the stroke of half-time, Sinayoko doubled the lead. Moses Simon set it up this time. Two goals, two assists from different players, the team working as a unit. That is how you build a lead. You make the most of your chances and you make the opposition pay for their sloppiness.

Monaco went in at the break 2-0 down despite controlling large portions of the ball. Their manager threw on Folarin Balogun and Christian Mawissa at the start of the second half. Paris FC also made changes, bringing on Moustapha Mbow. The game was not done yet.

Monaco Pull One Back, Paris FC Shut the Door

Balogun made an immediate impact. Coming off the bench at half-time, he scored in the 65th minute with a left-foot shot, assisted by Vanderson, to make it 2-1. Monaco were back in it. That is where character gets tested. A lot of sides at that level would have wobbled.

Paris FC did not wobble. Nine minutes later, Pablo Pagis put the result beyond doubt. His right-foot shot in the 74th minute, assisted by Sinayoko, restored the two-goal cushion. Paris FC 3-1 Monaco. Game over.

Sinayoko had a hand in all three goals. Two scored, one assisted. That is the kind of individual performance that wins you matches. The thing is, what made it even more impressive was that Paris FC were the team with fewer attacks and less of the ball. They were clinical. Monaco were not.

The Numbers Tell a Damning Story for Monaco

Monaco had 130 attacks. Paris FC had 76. Monaco had the majority of possession. They completed 577 passes to Paris FC's 442. And yet Paris FC had 19 total shots to Monaco's nine. Paris FC had 10 shots on target. Monaco had two. Two. That is not bad luck. That is a fundamental failure to turn possession into anything meaningful.

Paris FC created four big chances. Monaco created zero. Listen, you can pass the ball around all afternoon. If you cannot create a big chance, you cannot win a football match. End of.

Paris FC hit the woodwork twice and still won 3-1. Their goalkeeper made two saves. Monaco's goalkeeper made seven. That imbalance in saves alone tells you where the game was being played and who was doing the threatening.

Paris FC also won 39 duels to Monaco's 31. They made 22 interceptions to Monaco's 11. They completed 16 tackles to Monaco's eight. Monaco had more of the ball and lost every physical contest. That is an accountability issue. When you get outworked by a team that has less possession, you have to look at your attitude.

Paris FC's Crossing Game Was a Weapon

One of the more underrated aspects of this performance was Paris FC's delivery into the box. They completed seven accurate crosses from 17 attempts. Monaco managed two from nine. Paris FC also put in 15 key passes to Monaco's six. The width and directness of Paris FC's play caused Monaco real problems and their 3-1 victory reflected that.

Discipline and Late Drama

Both sides picked up two yellow cards each. Vanderson was booked for Monaco in the 68th minute for a foul. Lamine Camara was carded in the 88th minute for an argument. On the Paris FC side, Hamari Traoré was booked in the 85th minute and Pablo Pagis picked one up in the 88th. The cards in the final minutes suggested tempers fraying, which is what happens when one side has already won the game and the other side knows it.

Hamari Traoré was then substituted off in the 89th minute, with Emmanuel Mbemba coming on to see the game out. Paris FC managed the closing stages without any real drama.

Form Context and What It Means

Going into this match, Paris FC had won two and lost two from their previous five Ligue 1 outings. Monaco had won one and lost one from their previous five, with three draws. Neither side was in scintillating form. But Paris FC produced a performance that was direct, organised, and ruthless in front of goal. Monaco produced a performance that was passive, toothless, and completely unacceptable for a side that controlled the ball for the majority of the match.

The head-to-head record now shows Paris FC with one win from one meeting against Monaco, having also beaten them earlier in the year by a score of 4-1. Paris FC seem to know how to set up against this Monaco side. They sit, they compete, and they punish on the break.

Verdict

Paris FC deserved every bit of this. Three goals, nineteen shots, four big chances created, and a midfield that outworked Monaco in every defensive category. Sinayoko was the standout but this was a team effort in the truest sense. Everyone did their job.

Monaco had the ball and did nothing with it. Zero big chances created. Two shots on target. Seven saves required from their goalkeeper. That is not a tactical problem. That is a standards problem. The thing is, at some point Monaco have to look at what they are doing with all that possession, because right now they are giving teams exactly what they want. Paris FC took full advantage. Monaco were unacceptable today, and their manager needs to demand more from the players in front of him. End of.
