VAR was involved just before half-time, with Frosinone's Tommaso Baldanzi under review at the 44th minute. Whatever the decision, Baldanzi did not come out for the second half. That second yellow for Ehizibue had already sent him off, with Federico Insua coming on in his place at the 60th minute. And then Vasquez earned a card of his own for arguing. That kind of indiscipline is unacceptable. You have just scored. You are level. You have got everything to play for. And you are standing there having arguments with the referee. No accountability. No standards.

The statistics back up the chaos. Genoa finished with two yellow cards and no red cards, but Frosinone ended the match with three yellow cards, one yellow-red, and one red card. Ehizibue was the red card recipient, dismissed after his second booking. The match was littered with fouls, twelve apiece, and the cards followed naturally from the intensity and the fraying tempers.

Despite all the movement, despite ten minutes of a man advantage for Genoa, neither side could find a second goal. Frosinone's goalkeeper kept making saves. Genoa kept creating without that final clinical touch. Frosinone created two big chances and missed both of them. Genoa created one big chance and converted it. The scoreline reflects two teams who could not finish when it mattered most.

The desire was there today. I will give them that. The attitude looked better than it has during that five-game losing run where they managed two goals in five matches conceding ten. But desire without cutting edge is just effort. And effort without results is nothing in this business. Genoa needed three points. They got one. The basics of winning football, taking your chances and keeping your discipline, still let them down when it mattered. That has to change.
