The thing is, Charlotte came into this match having beaten DC United 3-1 just four weeks earlier in the reverse fixture. There was a pattern here. DC United have shown over their last five MLS matches that they concede far more than they score, three goals for and seven against. Charlotte showed they had the desire and the attitude to exploit that.

Charlotte's form coming in was strong. Three wins and two draws from their last five MLS matches, unbeaten, with ten goals scored. That kind of momentum matters. DC United's form showed one win in those same five matches. The gap in standards between the two sides over that period was visible on the pitch tonight.

The Bookings and the Discipline Question
