SJ Earthquakes: Better Recent Form, Shakier Bigger Picture

SJ Earthquakes walk in here with a bit of wind in their sails. In their last five MLS matches they have won two, drawn two and lost one. Two wins on the bounce coming into this one, including a 1-0 victory over Houston Dynamo and a 3-2 win over San Diego. That is a decent run and you have to give them credit for it.

But stretch the window out to ten matches and the picture changes sharply. Two wins, three draws and five losses. Goals conceded across those ten matches: twenty-one. Twenty-one. That is worse than Real Salt Lake's twenty over the same window. The Earthquakes shipped five to Minnesota United, four to Orlando City, four to Cincinnati, and three to St. Louis City. The thing is, those two wins at the end of the sample matter. Momentum is real. Confidence is real.
