Orlando City Host Struggling Columbus Crew as Home Form Demands More

Orlando City: Solid But Leaky

Three wins from their last five MLS matches is a respectable return. Orlando beat Atlanta United 3-2, beat San Diego 1-0, drew 3-3 with Minnesota United, beat Real Salt Lake 2-1, and lost 1-2 to Chicago Fire. That is a team that can score. That is also a team that can be scored against.

The thing is, 10 goals scored and 8 conceded across five matches tells you everything about their identity. They compete. They have desire. But their defensive standards are not where they need to be. A clean sheet percentage of 20 percent across those five games. That means one clean sheet in five. That is not a title-winning figure. That is a team living off their attacking output and hoping for the best.

Zoom out to the last ten MLS matches and the picture is similar. Five wins, two draws, three losses. Twenty goals scored, eighteen conceded. Both teams to score has happened in seven of those ten games. Orlando are a team who will entertain you. Whether they will keep you comfortable at the back is another matter entirely.

Listen, that loss to Cincinnati, 2-6 at home, is still sitting in this ten-match sample. You do not concede six goals to anyone and call your defensive standards acceptable. End of.

Columbus Crew: Form Is a Serious Problem

Columbus Crew have won one game in their last five MLS matches. One. They beat Colorado Rapids 3-0, which looked convincing on the scoreline. The rest of it has been a mess. They lost 1-2 to DC United, lost 1-3 to New England, lost 2-3 to Nashville SC, and lost 1-2 to CF Montreal. That is four defeats in five.

The thing is, losing is one thing. The manner of these results is what concerns me. Columbus conceded ten goals across those five games. They have kept one clean sheet. Their defensive attitude has been completely unacceptable for a team coming into a match they need to take something from.

Extend it to the last ten MLS matches and it gets worse. Three wins, one draw, six losses. Sixteen goals scored, eighteen conceded. Both teams to score in eight of those ten games. This is a Columbus Crew side that does not know how to hold a lead, does not know how to keep opponents out, and right now does not look like a team with the mentality to arrest that run on the road.

Their one bright result in that five-match window, the 3-0 win against Colorado, should not mask what has been a genuinely alarming collapse in standards. A good result against a poor side does not fix your defensive problems. It delays the conversation.

Head to Head: One Meeting, One Draw

These two sides have met once in MLS. Back in April 2026, the match ended 1-1. Both teams scored. Neither team kept a clean sheet. The head-to-head record tells us very little because the sample size is one match. I will not dress that up as meaningful evidence. What I will say is that the pattern of both teams scoring fits everything we have seen from both sides in their recent form. Goals tend to happen when these two play. Defensive discipline has not been the strong suit of either club.

What This Match Comes Down To

Orlando City are at home. They have genuine momentum with three wins in their last five MLS matches. Their supporters will be behind them. For Columbus Crew, travelling to Florida with one win in their last five and four recent defeats, the accountability has to come from somewhere within that dressing room. Someone has to stand up and demand more.

The thing is, Columbus are conceding goals at a rate that would concern any serious analyst. And I do not need a laptop to see it. They shipped ten goals in five games on the road and away from home. Orlando have scored ten in five at home. The numbers point in one direction.

I back Orlando City to win this match. Their home form has been competitive, their attacking output has been consistent, and they are facing a Columbus Crew side that is in genuine difficulty when it comes to keeping goals out. That is not me being romantic about Orlando. That is me reading the evidence in front of me.

The goalkeeping and defensive shape at Columbus needs addressing. Until it is, results like the ones they have been collecting will keep coming. Standards have slipped badly and coming to Orlando, at half midnight UK time, against a team full of confidence, is not the ideal fixture to start fixing that.
