Cagliari's Home Fortress Faces Bologna's Stubborn Resistance in Serie A Clash

SportSignals Match Desk · Football analysis desk ·

Cagliari host Bologna in Serie A on Saturday 24 October 2026, and the thing is, this is exactly the kind of game that tells you everything about a squad's character. One side is building something. The other has questions to answer.

Cagliari's Form Demands Respect

Listen, three wins from five in Serie A is not a fluke. Cagliari have put together a run that includes wins over Udinese, Atalanta, and Lecce, and they held Juventus to a 1-1 draw. That is not a bad set of results. That is a team competing.

They conceded just three goals in those five matches and kept clean sheets in 40 per cent of them. The basics are being executed. They are organised, they are hard to break down, and they know how to grind out a result. The 0-1 loss to Inter is the only blemish, and Inter will do that to most teams. I am not holding that against them.

Cagliari do carry some injury concerns. They have four players currently unavailable, including one long-term absence that has been ongoing since March. That kind of disruption tests squad depth and concentration. But their recent results suggest the group has handled it.

Bologna's Away Form Is a Problem

Bologna's record across their five completed Serie A matches reads one win, two draws, and two losses. That is not good enough for a team with their resources, and I will not dress it up. They have conceded six goals in those five matches and have not kept a single clean sheet. Not one.

Their only win in that sample came against Lecce, a 2-1 result. They drew with Torino and Sassuolo and lost to both Napoli and Atalanta. The Sassuolo draw, a 2-2 result, is the one that catches my eye. You do not draw 2-2 with Sassuolo if your defensive standards are where they need to be. That is unacceptable at this level.

Bologna also have injury problems. A player has been out since mid-September and was expected back around 19 October, so their availability picture remains unclear. Another is confirmed out until early November. That is not ideal preparation.

Head to Head

These two sides met once in the data available, back in May 2026. It finished 0-0. A cagey affair, both teams keeping clean sheets. It tells you this can be a tight, scrappy contest when the stakes are right. Do not expect an open game on Saturday.

The Bet

Under 2.5 goals also catches my attention. The head-to-head ended goalless. Cagliari have conceded just three in five matches. Their goals for column is modest too, five in five, so they are not a side that blows teams away. Unders at around 1.64 to 1.66 is not generous, but it is the logical read of the evidence.

I am backing Cagliari to win. Standards, accountability, and a home crowd behind them. Bologna need to show me they can compete before I start putting money on them on the road. End of.
