Last updated 2 August 2026. Right, we are seven days out from the Belgian Pro League opener and the data is starting to fill in nicely. Anderlecht vs La Louvière. Sunday, 9 August, half four kick-off. On paper this looks like a home banker. But mate, football is never that simple, is it. Let's get into it.
The Big Picture
Look, this is a fascinating one because of what the form data is actually telling us. Anderlecht are the bigger club, the home side, and the favourites at around 1.70 to 1.80 depending on your bookie. The model gives them a 55.8% chance of winning. Fine. Expected. But here is the bit that gets me excited... this game has goals written all over it.
Anderlecht at home over their last ten games in this league have scored 20 and conceded 18. Twenty scored, eighteen conceded. Their clean sheet percentage at home sits at just over 11%. That means they kept a clean sheet roughly once in every nine home games. Once! And BTTS has landed in nearly 89% of their home matches. Nearly nine times out of ten both teams have scored when Anderlecht are playing at home. That is not a blip. That is who they are right now.
And their home form string reads WDLLWLLWW. So they are winning games but they are conceding goals all over the shop while doing it. Over 2.5 goals has come in at nearly 89% of their home matches as well. Honestly. Look at those numbers and tell me this is a game to back under 2.5. You cannot do it with a straight face.
What About La Louvière?
Right so La Louvière are sitting 18th in the pre-season standings and their form from last season makes for grim reading. Away from home in their last five they have won once, lost four, scored four and conceded thirteen. Thirteen goals against in five away games. That is carnage.
Here is the thing though. Look at the fixtures for La Louvière away from home and it is a horror show. Four losses from five on the road, conceding at an average of 2.6 goals a game away. Coming to the Lotto Park and facing Anderlecht... this could get messy for them. Their BTTS rate away is only 40% mind you, so there is a chance they just get shut out and battered. But given Anderlecht's defending record I reckon La Louvière nick at least one.
The Anderlecht Problem
Now here is where I want to slow down for a second and be honest with you. Anderlecht are not exactly flying either. Their away form in the last ten shows three wins, one draw, six losses. Their momentum slope at home is negative, sitting at minus 0.10. They are trending slightly downward. Not dramatically. But the vibes are not all sunshine and trophies.
Their form string at home reads WDLLWLLWW. Two wins to close out. That is decent. But there were back-to-back defeats in there not long ago. And in this new Belgian Pro League season the table is completely blank. Everyone on zero. Fresh start. So we are leaning heavily on last season's habits and I think those habits are very relevant here.
I actually looked at the numbers for once, as Marcus would say, and the one thing that leaps out is Anderlecht's possession figure away from home. Thirteen percent average possession in their away context. Thirteen. That has to be a data quirk or some very specific tactical setup but either way, at home they should be totally dominant territorially. Which means more shots, more pressure, more goals.
Jay's Verdict
No head-to-head data available for these two which tells me this might genuinely be a first meeting at this level. La Louvière have come up and Anderlecht are the kind of scalp every newly promoted side circles in the diary. But the form gap is enormous. Anderlecht should win this. The only question is how many goals we see and based on everything here... quite a few, mate. Quite a few.
You heard it here first. Back to the drawing board if this ends 0-0 but I genuinely cannot see it. Come on then, Sunday.
