Young Boys 3-3 Basel result, stats and report

St. Gallen took all three points at Basel despite being comprehensively outshot, winning 3-1 in a result that tells you everything about clinical finishing versus wasted opportunity. Basel created more, threatened more, and still lost. Unacceptable.

Young Boys came from two goals down to beat Servette 3-2 in the Swiss Super League, with Samuel Essende scoring twice in the final twenty minutes to seal a dramatic home victory.

Xherdan Shaqiri scored twice in the second half to put the game beyond Luzern, as Basel ran out comfortable 4-2 winners in the Swiss Super League despite the home side hitting the woodwork and generating more shots overall.

Lugano's five-match winning run was halted as Young Boys fought back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw, with substitute Albian Ajeti's 80th-minute strike completing the comeback.

Young Boys led twice and dominated large portions of the match but could not hold Basel out, as a 3-3 draw at home left points on the table and serious defensive questions unanswered.

Two teams who cannot keep a clean sheet between them meet on Sunday. Something has to give, and the evidence says it will probably be both defences at once.

Grasshopper have conceded 13 goals in their last five Swiss Super League matches. Young Boys have scored 16 in theirs. Something has to give.

Basel sit third in the Swiss Super League table but cannot keep a clean sheet at home to save themselves, while St. Gallen arrive in Basel carrying eight first-team absences and a solitary away game under their belts this season.
