Tromsø 3-2 HamKam. Write it down. Now ask yourself what HamKam were actually doing out there, because the numbers do not lie and neither do my eyes.

This was not a competitive football match for large stretches. It was Tromsø doing what they wanted against a visiting side that managed four shots across ninety-plus minutes, kept none of the ball, and conceded an own goal in the 87th minute to make absolutely sure there was no way back. HamKam had no desire to compete for the full ninety. That is the beginning and the end of it.

First Half: Goals Either Side of the Break

For all Tromsø's dominance in the stats, the first half was surprisingly even on the scoreboard. Mohamed Ofkir gave HamKam the lead with a header on 41 minutes, assisted by David Benjamin. Credit where it is due. HamKam nicked one and they had every right to dig in and make it ugly.

They didn't. Tromsø responded immediately. Morten Bjørlo levelled with a right-foot shot on 44 minutes, assisted by Alexander Warneryd, and the teams went in level at 1-1. Two goals in three minutes before half-time. The basics of defending a lead had gone completely out the window from HamKam's perspective.

The thing is, HamKam's goal told you nothing about who was in control of this match. Tromsø had 66 per cent of the ball in the first half and were already building up an overwhelming territorial advantage. The goal was against the run of play, full stop.

Second Half: Tromsø Turn the Screw

HamKam made wholesale changes at half-time. Henrik Udahl came on for Ofkir, their goalscorer, and two more substitutions followed at the hour mark with H. Opsahl and Danilo Al-Saed introduced. Whether that was tactical or an admission that certain players weren't up to it, I couldn't tell you. Either way, it didn't work.

Heine Åsen Larsen put Tromsø ahead on 60 minutes with a header, assisted by Ruben Yttergård Jenssen. That is 2-1 and Tromsø are now in the driving seat. HamKam had no answer. They were sitting deeper, giving the ball away cheaply, and living on scraps.

Listen, I'm not going to dress this up. HamKam's defensive accountability in this period was non-existent. They gave Tromsø time and space to deliver crosses and manufacture headers. Tromsø had seven corners to HamKam's one. Seven. That tells you everything about where this match was being played and who was setting the terms.

The Final Ten Minutes: It Was Already Over

Vegard Erlien, who had come on as a substitute in the 68th minute, headed home in the 85th to make it 3-1. Again assisted by Ruben Yttergård Jenssen. The same delivery man, the same lack of defensive organisation from HamKam. You would think they might have spotted the pattern.

Then came the moment that summed up HamKam's afternoon. Vetle Skjærvik put the ball into his own net in the 87th minute to give HamKam a consolation at 3-2. An own goal. That is the standard of defending they produced when it absolutely did not matter anymore. You cannot make it up.

S. Strand Nilsen had picked up a yellow card for a foul in the 77th minute, which was about the only time HamKam made any real physical imposition on the match. There was a VAR check involving Henrik Udahl in the 71st minute, though it resulted in nothing significant.

The Numbers Tell the Story

Tromsø had 18 shots to HamKam's 5. Tromsø had 11 shots on target to HamKam's 2. HamKam's goalkeeper made 8 saves. Eight saves and you still only concede three goals, so at least somebody on that pitch was doing their job. Tromsø had 134 attacks to HamKam's 65, and 83 dangerous attacks to HamKam's 34.

The thing is, Tromsø also had 16 key passes to HamKam's 4. That is a staggering difference in quality of chance creation. HamKam were not just outrun. They were completely outclassed in every area of the pitch that requires desire and attitude.

Tromsø's passing accuracy was 89 per cent from 712 passes. HamKam managed 78 per cent from 355. The visitors were barely in the same game. And that possession split of 66-34 confirms what you could see with your own eyes.

Context and Accountability

Tromsø have had their own problems in recent matches. In their last five Eliteserien outings before today, they won once, drew once, and lost three times. They shipped five to Rosenborg and two to Kristiansund. They needed this badly.

But HamKam made it easy for them. HamKam's last five Eliteserien results before this match read: lost, lost, drew, lost, drew. No wins. No clean sheets. Fifteen goals conceded in those five games. Zero wins. And they came here and played like a team that had already accepted the afternoon was not going to go their way.

That is not good enough. Standards have to be higher than that. You can lose football matches. Everyone does. But you cannot turn up without the basic desire to compete for 90 minutes. HamKam did not compete here. They created four shots, managed two on target, and relied on a goalkeeper who was excellent just to keep the score respectable.

Tromsø did what they needed to do. Three goals, a home win, Ruben Yttergård Jenssen pulling strings with two assists from his position. Erlien came off the bench and headed one in. The basics of attacking football, executed when it mattered. That is what accountability looks like.

HamKam go away with two goals that flatter them completely. The own goal in the 87th minute dressed it up as a contest. It was not a contest. End of.
