Racing Santander 2-2 Villarreal result, stats and report

Racing Santander made nine saves and competed like their lives depended on it, but Valencia nicked a point they barely earned. Two sides who cannot defend. One result that helps neither of them.

Real Madrid ground out a 1-0 win over Villarreal at the Bernabeu, with Yan Diomande's 62nd-minute goal proving decisive, but the night belonged to VAR, red cards, and a dressing room that cannot keep its discipline.

Villarreal ended a three-match losing run in La Liga with a commanding 3-1 home victory over Levante, with Ayoze Pérez, Alberto Moleiro, and Georges Mikautadze all on target.

Villarreal have not kept a single clean sheet in their last five La Liga matches. Getafe arrive having scored just three goals in five. Something has to give, and not in a good way.

Málaga have not won in five La Liga matches. Racing Santander have conceded eighteen goals in five. Something has to give on Sunday.

Real Madrid travel to Santander on Sunday carrying a wobble in their recent form and a lengthy injury list. Racing have been shipping goals at an alarming rate, but they will fancy their chances of making this uncomfortable.

Villarreal host Espanyol on Friday night in a La Liga fixture that has goals written all over it. Neither side has looked convincing in defence, and someone has to stop the rot.

Paris Saint Germain arrive in Spain unbeaten in five Champions League matches and carrying serious momentum. Villarreal have one completed result in this campaign and it was not pretty.
