QPR 2-1 Lincoln City: Kamara Strike Seals It After Lincoln's Early Lead

SportSignals Match Desk · Football analysis desk ·

QPR 2-1 Lincoln City. Write it down. QPR came from a goal down, equalised before half-time, and finished the job through Glen Kamara ten minutes from time. Three points. That is what matters. Everything else is detail.

The Opening Goal and Lincoln's Early Belief

Lincoln came here and had the audacity to score first. Richard Kone got it in the 11th minute, a right-foot finish assisted by Boy Kemper. Fair play to them. They showed desire early. They pressed, they competed, and they took their chance when it came.

The thing is, Lincoln arrived here having lost three of their last five Championship matches. They conceded 13 goals across those five games. Zero clean sheets in that sample. This was a team that could score but could not keep the door shut. QPR knew that. Or they should have.

Conor McGrandles was booked in the first minute for a foul. Paul Smyth had his name taken in the eighth. So before QPR equalised, both sides had a yellow card each. The match had a bit of needle to it from the off. Good. That is Championship football. No apologies for that.

QPR Level Before Half-Time

QPR showed character here. Dom Jefferies pulled them level in the 29th minute, assisted by Freddie Draper. Right-foot finish. Same method as Lincoln's opener. QPR went into the break level and with the momentum shifting their way.

Yunus Konak was booked in the 33rd minute for a foul. QPR were winning the aggression battle even when they were giving away fouls. That is not always a bad thing in a home match. It tells the opposition something about your intentions.

At the break, QPR had 69 per cent possession. They had 664 passes to Lincoln's 297. Lincoln won more duels, 60 to QPR's 44, and made more tackles. So Lincoln were competing physically. The thing is, QPR were simply controlling the game with the ball. They had 16 key passes to Lincoln's 8. The territory was theirs. The question was whether they could convert that dominance into a goal.

Lincoln Reorganise, QPR Respond With Substitutions

Both managers went to their benches in the second half. Ilias Chair came on for QPR at 59 minutes, replacing Harvey Vale. Dennis Cirkin and Karamoko Dembele came on for Lincoln at 69 minutes. Tom Bayliss and Tom Hamer were introduced by QPR at 73 minutes. Justin Obikwu and Koki Saito came on for Lincoln at 77 minutes, with Kone, who had opened the scoring, one of those replaced.

Lincoln made five changes in total across the second half. QPR also made five. Both teams were trying to find something. The game was level and open. That suited QPR given how much of the ball they had.

Kamara Wins It With Ten Minutes Left

Glen Kamara. 80th minute. Right-foot finish. Ilias Chair with the assist, the same player who had come off the bench at 59 minutes. That is what substitutes are supposed to do. Come on, make an impact, win the match. Kamara delivered. Chair delivered. End of.

QPR had 21 shots in total to Lincoln's 12. QPR had 4 shots on target, Lincoln had 3. QPR had 12 shots inside the box to Lincoln's 6. The numbers backed up the result. QPR created more, attacked more, and ultimately had the quality to win the match.

Listen, Lincoln's keeper was not exactly being peppered. QPR had 11 shots off target. That sloppiness in front of goal could have cost them on another day. But Kamara was clinical when it mattered. That counts for everything.

What This Match Tells You About QPR

QPR's last five Championship matches going into this one read: win, loss, win, loss, draw. Two wins, two losses, one draw. Eleven goals scored across that sample. Nine conceded. That is a team with real attacking output but defensive questions. They kept one clean sheet in those five matches.

Today they conceded again. Lincoln scored at 11 minutes. QPR let them in. That is unacceptable at home regardless of the result. You cannot build anything sustainable if you keep shipping goals. The clean sheet percentage of 20 per cent from those five matches tells you all you need to know. Accountability is required there.

But the response was right. They equalised quickly. They controlled the game. They won it late. The attitude in the second half was correct. That matters.

What This Match Tells You About Lincoln

Lincoln won only one of their last five Championship matches. One win, one draw, three losses. Thirteen goals conceded across five matches. No clean sheets. Zero. That is not a minor concern. That is a structural problem.

They came here, scored early, and still lost. Lincoln lost to Watford 0-1 and Birmingham 1-3 in their two matches directly before this one. They got battered by West Ham United 0-6 in that same five-match window. The only bright spot was a 4-1 win over Burnley. So they can score. But they cannot defend. And in the Championship, that combination ends one way.

QPR won 60 duels to Lincoln's 44 in those head-to-head aerial and physical battles during the second half when it mattered. Lincoln won more headers overall, 31 to QPR's 18, but QPR's 89 per cent pass accuracy compared to Lincoln's 71 per cent tells you which team was executing the basics better over 90 minutes.

Cirkin Gets a Late Yellow

Dennis Cirkin picked up a second yellow card in stoppage time. He had come on as a substitute in the 69th minute. So he lasted 24 minutes on the pitch before getting booked. That is poor discipline. Lincoln were already beaten by that point, but it sets a bad tone going forward. Standards have to be maintained even when the result has gone against you.

Final Word

QPR came from behind and won. They did it with more possession, more attacks, more shots, and a clinical finish when it was needed. That is what home advantage is supposed to look like. Lincoln had moments but were too leaky at the back to hold anything. QPR take the three points and they deserved them. End of.
