LASK Linz vs Liverpool prediction, odds and how to watch

Sporting CP host LASK Linz in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night, with the Portuguese side under pressure to deliver a convincing performance after a mixed run of results in the competition. LASK arrive in Lisbon short-handed and with serious questions hanging over their defensive standards.

Andoni Iraola confirmed Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo are both injured ahead of Liverpool's clash with Manchester City, but his cautious, conditional comments are being spun as a 'boost' when the real picture is genuine uncertainty, compounded by an injury to defender Jeremy Jacquet.

Liverpool have rehired Julian Ward as sporting director just two years after he quit the same role, with Mike Gordon driving a rapid appointment following Richard Hughes' exit to Al-Hilal. The move lands amid a wider ownership transition, with FSG selling a 38% stake to a Bezos-backed consortium that holds an option for full control.

Julian Ward has returned as Liverpool's sporting director for a second stint, replacing Richard Hughes after just over two years. With Van Dijk, Alisson and Ngumoha's futures unresolved, his reappointment will be judged fast.

Brentford have opened contract talks with Kevin Schade in a bid to lock in their in-form winger before Arsenal or Liverpool can move in January, a defensive play that reflects the club's wider sell-high recruitment model.
