Independiente 0-1 Platense result, stats and report

Independiente took all three points in La Plata with two late goals that bore no relation to the balance of play, exposing a structural problem in Estudiantes that the scoreline will only partially hide.

Platense dominated possession and territory for long stretches at home, yet Unión Santa Fe twice led before a late equaliser made it 2-2 in a match defined by own goals, a penalty, VAR interventions, and a Platense side that cannot stop conceding at home.

Platense have won zero of their last ten games. Talleres are fourth in the Liga Profesional. Monday night in Buenos Aires has all the ingredients for a visitors' win, and the numbers back it up.

Two of Argentine football's great institutions meet at the Estadio José Amalfitani on Monday 3 August, with Vélez defending third place in the Liga Profesional standings against an Independiente side that scores freely but defends with worrying generosity.

Instituto host a Platense side without a win in their last nine Liga Profesional outings. The home side aren't exactly flying either, but at evens they look the right side to be on. Jay Thompson breaks it all down.

Platense have not won a single home game in their last five attempts and are conceding freely, while Unión Santa Fe arrive carrying both genuine attacking intent and a defence that simply cannot hold a lead. Something has to give on Sunday.

Estudiantes host a porous Independiente side on Sunday with a chance to cement their place at the summit of the Argentine Liga Profesional. The visitors have not kept a single clean sheet on the road this season, and Connor Maguire is not about to pretend that is irrelevant.
