Right, last updated this one on 26 July and we've got some proper data to work with now. Djurgården vs Västerås SK, Monday 3 August, Swedish Allsvenskan. On paper this looks like a solid mid-table scrap but dig into the numbers and there's actually a lot going on here. Grab a brew, let's go.
Djurgården are sitting third in Allsvenskan with 23 points from 13 games. Seven wins, two draws, four losses. That's a decent return but they're already 15 points behind the runaway leaders at the top, which tells you something about how dominant that side has been. Still, third place is nothing to be embarrassed about and Djurgårdens goal difference of plus 12 shows they can put teams to the sword.
Västerås SK are fifth. Twenty-two points from 14 games. Six wins, four draws, four losses. Goal difference of just plus one. That tells a different story. They're getting results but they're doing it the hard way, grinding through matches rather than blowing teams away. Honestly, a goal difference of one from 24 goals scored means they're leaking almost as many as they're scoring. There's something to work with there.
Look at the fixtures and look at the form. This is where it gets interesting.
Djurgårdens last five home games read WLLWD. Two wins, a draw, and two losses at home. That is patchy, mate. They've scored 13 and conceded six in those five, so when they win they're winning well, but they've been getting turned over at home more than a third-placed side probably should. The home clean sheet rate is 40% which is fine, but the BTTS rate of 60% at home and over 2.5 goals landing in 80% of those home games... that's the real story right there.
Now here's the thing about Djurgården that I actually looked at the numbers for once and it surprised me. Their away form over the last five is WDWWL. Three wins and a draw in five away from home. Their momentum slope away from home is 0.4, which is the highest number in any of their form windows. They're actually a better side on the road right now than they are at home. Make of that what you will when they're the home team on Monday.
Västerås away in the last five? DWWLW. Three wins, a draw, a loss. Their away BTTS rate is 60% and over 2.5 goals has landed in 80% of their last five away games. Eight goals scored, seven conceded in those five matches. They are not keeping it tight on the road. At all.
Put these two together and the goals market is screaming at you from across the room.
The prediction model gives Djurgården a 49.8% chance of winning this. That's basically saying this is a coin flip for the result. The model also puts BTTS at a 62% chance and over 2.5 goals at 64%. Look, I know some of you lot love xG, that fancy expected goals thing that tells you what should have happened instead of what actually did happen... but we don't even have those numbers for this one so we're just going off real goals and real results like proper football fans.
The confidence rating on the home win signal is 50 out of 100. That's the model basically shrugging its shoulders and saying "yeah, probably Djurgården, but don't bet your house on it." Fair enough. At least it's honest.
There's one confirmed injury to flag. Djurgården have a player out on a long-term injury, listed as out with no expected return date. The injury has been going on since March 2025, so this is clearly a serious one. No name available in the data but it's been factored into their season already. Beyond that, no fresh injury concerns are showing up in the data at this stage.
Here's a little thing worth noting. Västerås's overall last-five form reads WDWWL with a momentum slope of 0.4 as well. Both sides are carrying positive momentum into this. Their overall last ten shows 17 goals scored but 14 conceded. That goal difference is not the record of a team that knows how to shut up shop. They're lively going forward, leaky at the back. A trip to third-placed Djurgården is a big ask.
But don't write them off. Their away record in the last ten games has them winning four of seven completed matches. There's genuine quality there. This is not a team rolling into Stockholm to park the bus and hope for a point. They'll come at Djurgården and that suits everyone who wants a proper game of football.
Right. You know the drill. I'm going big on this...
Look, the result market is a 50-50 with a draw chucked in for good measure. I'm not piling into Djurgården to win at what will probably be short odds for something the model rates as barely a coin flip. That's not value, that's just hoping.
What I am doing is going BTTS. Both teams to score. Sixty-two percent model probability, 60% BTTS rate for Djurgården at home, 60% BTTS rate for Västerås away, and Västerås have conceded in nearly every away game going. This has goals in it. Both ends. Don't @ me.
Stick that in the acca alongside over 2.5 goals. Sixty-four percent model probability, 80% over 2.5 in Djurgården's last five home games, 80% over 2.5 in Västerås's last five away games. The data is basically begging you. You heard it here first.
Back to the drawing board if it ends 1-0. It won't though. Probably. Maybe. I reckon we're getting goals either way on Monday.
Djurgården are slight favourites at home and the model agrees. Third versus fifth in Allsvenskan, two sides carrying good recent momentum, and a combined record that screams goals from both ends. The result could genuinely go either way but the goals market looks well worth your attention. Monday night in Stockholm, proper football, expect scenes.
