Where Both Sides Are At

So Djurgården sit eighth in the Allsvenskan. Look at the fixtures they have played so far and what jumps out immediately is the goals. Six scored, six conceded. They are entertaining, I will give them that. Every game they are involved in seems to have a bit of madness about it. They are not running away with the league by any means from eighth spot, but they are very much in the mix and a home win here would do wonders for momentum.

IFK Göteborg though. Mate. Fourteenth. Four goals scored, eight conceded. That is not a great return at all. They are shipping goals at a rate that should worry their supporters and the attacking end is not doing enough to compensate. When you are conceding at that kind of clip and not scoring enough to paper over the cracks, away trips to teams above you in the table are very difficult assignments.

You cannot.

IFK Göteborg are going to need a massive improvement on what they have shown so far if they are going to come away from Stockholm with anything. Four goals in their opening matches is simply not enough firepower to go win games on the road against teams who have something to prove.

Right. Here is where I land on this. Djurgården are the better side on current form and the home advantage tips it further. IFK Göteborg's defensive record is concerning and I do not see that suddenly fixing itself on a Monday night in Stockholm. However, and this is important, Göteborg will likely nick at least one. Why? Because Djurgården have conceded six themselves. They are not exactly misers at the back.

So we are potentially looking at a Djurgården win but with goals flying in at both ends. That is the vibe I am getting from this one.

No official confirmed starting lineups have dropped yet as of this update, which is fairly standard for a Monday fixture with squads still being assessed after last weekend's action. Keep an eye on the official club channels in the 24 hours before kickoff for any injury news or suspensions that might shift things.

The Verdict

Djurgården to win. IFK Göteborg to score at least once because that is what this Djurgården defence has been allowing all season. Expect it to be competitive for long stretches but the home side have too much going for them on Monday. Eighth versus fourteenth, home advantage, a crowd behind them. The scenes if Djurgården put on a show here could be something. IFK Göteborg need a result badly to climb away from that fourteenth spot but I just do not see where the goals are coming from for a side with four in the bank so far.

Set the alarm, get the snacks in, and enjoy some Allsvenskan football on a Monday night. There are worse ways to start the week, trust the process.
