Brøndby IF 3-2 Sønderjyske Fodbold. Three up at half time. Two goals conceded in the second half. A win is a win. But there are things here that need saying, and I am going to say them.
The First Half: Brøndby Were Ruthless
The thing is, Brøndby were exactly what a home side should be. They dominated possession, finished the half with 64 percent of the ball, and converted their chances when they mattered. That is accountability in action. That is executing the basics.
The opener came on 18 minutes. A right foot finish, and the same player doubled the lead on 30 minutes. Two goals from the same man in the same half, with the same assist each time. That is a combination that is working. That is desire. The third arrived on 45 minutes, a left foot finish before the break, and Brøndby went into the dressing room three goals to the good. Comfortable. In control. Job done. Or so it should have been.

They did compete when it mattered in the second half, four yellow cards worth of competing in fact, but that is also four yellow cards. That is not controlled desire. That is panic. A substitute was booked within minutes of coming on. That tells you everything about where their heads were.

Two goals in the first half from the same man, with the same assist both times. That combination did the damage.
