Bournemouth Host Stuttering AC Milan With Europa League Momentum Behind Them

SportSignals Match Desk · Football analysis desk ·

Thursday. Europa League. Bournemouth versus AC Milan. On paper, that fixture still carries weight. In practice, you need to look at what both sides have actually done in this competition, not what their badge says.

Bournemouth's Europa League Form

Bournemouth have one completed Europa League match to their name in this competition. They beat Real Sociedad 2-1 on 17 September. That is it. One match, one win. The thing is, that is still one more win than AC Milan have managed.

It was not a clean sheet. Both sides scored. But Bournemouth got the job done, competed for ninety minutes, and came out with three points. That is the basics. You do the basics, you get results. End of.

AC Milan's Europa League Form

Listen, I do not enjoy saying this about a club with Milan's history. But the evidence is sitting right there. AC Milan lost 0-2 to Benfica on 16 September. They did not score. They did not compete at a level that earns you points in European football.

Zero goals for. Two conceded. That is not a performance worthy of the shirt. That is a showing with no desire, no accountability at the top end of the pitch. Until they prove otherwise in this competition, I am not treating them like favourites just because the name sounds good.

Injury Concerns for Both Sides

Bournemouth are carrying a significant injury load heading into this one. There are four first-team players currently out, two of them with injuries severe enough to have kept them sidelined for extended periods. One player who was due back around 16 October may still be short of full fitness. Another minor injury listed with an expected return of 23 October is borderline for this match.

That is a squad stretched thin. And in European football, squad depth gets tested quickly.

AC Milan have two players confirmed out. One of those is a long-term absence with a return date of February 2027. That tells you this is a serious problem for them, not a knock they are managing week to week. Missing players of that significance across a Europa League campaign creates problems you cannot paper over with reputation.

What Has to Happen on Thursday

Bournemouth need to do what they did against Real Sociedad. Compete. Stay organised. Execute the basics at both ends of the pitch. Their home crowd gives them something to play for. Use it.

AC Milan need to show something they did not show against Benfica. Attitude. Standards. Because if they turn up to the Vitality Stadium with the same effort levels as their last Europa League outing, Bournemouth will punish them. Simple as that.

The thing is, Europa League Thursday nights at the Vitality are exactly the kind of occasion that rewards teams who want it more. Bournemouth have shown they want it in this competition. Milan have shown nothing yet to suggest they do.

Connor's Verdict

I am backing Bournemouth here. Home advantage, better form in this competition across our available evidence, and an opponent who has already shown they can be outworked and outscored. This is not a complicated call. It is about who competes harder on the night. Right now, every bit of evidence says that is Bournemouth. End of.
