Barcelona 3-0 Getafe: Gordon and Jesus Lay the Platform Before Koundé Seals It

SportSignals Match Desk · Football analysis desk ·

Barcelona 3-0 Getafe. Five games in La Liga. Five wins. Twenty-four goals scored. If you want to know what a team with standards looks like, watch this. Getafe came to the Camp Nou and got exactly what they deserved for not competing. Nothing.

Two Minutes In. Game Over.

Anthony Gordon put Barcelona ahead inside two minutes. A right-foot shot, straight to the point, and the tone was set immediately. This is what happens when you have desire in abundance and the opposition does not. Getafe were penned back from the off and they never found a way out of it.

Gabriel Jesus added the second on thirty minutes. Another right-foot finish. Barcelona were in complete control and Getafe's goalkeeper had already made five saves by full time. Five saves and still conceded three. That tells you everything about the volume of pressure Barcelona applied.

The Numbers Are Staggering

Barcelona had 83 per cent of the ball. Eighty-three. Getafe had 17. You can talk all you want about tactics and shape, but when you are defending with 17 per cent possession against a side this clinical, you are not competing. You are surviving. And Getafe could not even manage that.

Barcelona registered 23 shots in total. Fourteen of those came from inside the box. They created seven big chances and, the thing is, they missed six of them. Six. On another day this is five or six nil. Getafe managed four shots all match, only one of which was on target. One. Barcelona's goalkeeper made a single save. One save. That is not a match. That is a training session.

The passing figures are almost embarrassing to relay. Barcelona completed 787 passes from 862 attempts, a 91 per cent success rate. Getafe completed 106 from 173, at 61 per cent. Barcelona were not just better. They were operating on a different level of basic technical execution.

Getafe's Discipline Collapsed

Getafe finished the match with four yellow cards. Four. Kiko Femenía went into the book on 34 minutes for a foul. Johan Mojica followed at 45 minutes, also for a foul. Mojica was substituted off at 65 minutes, as was Femenía at 85 minutes. The damage was already done by then. Sebastián Boselli, who came on as a substitute, was booked himself on 71 minutes. Ramón Terrats picked up the fourth for an argument on 75 minutes. That is a team that has lost the plot. When you are not winning the ball fairly, you start fouling. When you are not competing, you start arguing. Unacceptable.

Listen, you can have some sympathy for a side that comes to face a Barcelona team this ruthless and this in-form. But four yellow cards and 11 fouls committed tells me the attitude was wrong from the moment the game turned against them. That is not just a tactical problem. That is a mentality problem.

Koundé Finishes It Off

Jules Koundé made it three on 73 minutes, finishing with his left foot from an assist by Lamine Yamal. A centre-back adding a third goal late on, assisted by one of the most exciting young players in the game. That is what happens when a team has quality all over the pitch and the basics are done right from first whistle to last.

Barcelona made five substitutions. Gavi came off for Fermín López at 61 minutes. Dani Olmo, who had picked up a yellow card at 46 minutes, was replaced by Pedri at the same time. Rodri made way for Marc Bernal Casas at 71 minutes. Anthony Gordon, who had opened the scoring, was substituted for Karim Adeyemi, also at 71 minutes. Gabriel Jesus came off for Hamza Abdelkarim on 82 minutes. Rotation with a 3-0 lead and fresh legs coming on. Barcelona managed the game with complete professionalism.

The Head-to-Head Tells the Same Story

In the two previous La Liga meetings between these sides, Barcelona won both. Barcelona scored five goals across those two games and kept a clean sheet in both. Getafe have not scored against Barcelona in any of those meetings. None. The accountability deficit in Getafe's camp when they look at this fixture record should be enormous.

What This Win Tells You

Five wins, 24 goals scored in five La Liga matches, and a clean sheet here that was never really in doubt. Barcelona are competing at the highest level right now. The desire is there. The execution of the basics is there. Gordon pressing and scoring inside two minutes. Jesus clinical on the half-hour. Koundé arriving late to put the game to bed. That is a team where everyone knows their role and does it.

Getafe head home with four yellow cards, three goals conceded, and one shot on target to show for their afternoon. Sophie is not wrong when she says that a side with only 17 per cent possession cannot hope to stay in the game. You have to win the ball back. You have to compete for 90 minutes. Getafe did neither. End of.
