Frankfurt made three substitutions at the 61-minute mark, which showed some urgency. Livan Burcu, Woo-yeong Jeong, and Tim Skarke all came on. It was Skarke who ended up with the crucial touch that stole Union a point they were throwing away. That is what you get when you do not see a game out. You get punished. Accountability. Simple as that.

Union Could Not See It Out and That Tells You Everything

Union Berlin had the lead three times in this match. Twice they surrendered it. Going into stoppage time with a 3-2 advantage and conceding is one of the most basic failures in football. You manage the game. You compete for every second ball. You make it ugly if you have to.

The stats back up what the eye tells you. Frankfurt had 19 total shots to Union's 12. Frankfurt put 10 shots on target. Union managed three. The home side were hanging on in the final stages, and when you are hanging on with a one-goal lead, you cannot afford four yellow cards and a substitution that results in another booking inside five minutes of the recipient coming on.

Frankfurt's 27 total crosses compared to Union's 16 shows where the threat was coming from. That aerial delivery from Juranovic produced two of Frankfurt's three goals. Two headed goals from set-piece and crossing situations. If your defensive basics are not right, a team will find you out from those positions every single time.

The Discipline Problem Cannot Be Ignored

Union Berlin collected four yellow cards. Ebnoutalib for unsportsmanlike conduct at minute 11. Jeremiaha Maluze for time wasting at minute 13. Raphael Onyedika for a foul in the 84th minute. Otávio, barely on the pitch, booked in the 90th minute.

Time wasting in the 13th minute. The 13th minute. I do not care what explanation anyone offers for that. It is an embarrassment. You are sitting at 2-1 up and you are already wasting time in the first quarter of the game. That is the kind of attitude that gets managers sacked and players dropped. The thing is, these bookings are not isolated incidents. They reflect a side that lacks composure and discipline under pressure.

Frankfurt were not saints either. Michel Aebischer was booked for persistent fouling in the 23rd minute and was eventually replaced at half-time. Zeno Van Den Bosch picked up a card for a foul in the 81st minute. But two yellows from Frankfurt against four from Union tells its own story.

What the Result Actually Means

Union Berlin's last five Bundesliga results before this game read: win, win, draw, loss, loss. They came into this looking to build some momentum. Instead they drop two points from a winning position in stoppage time. That is not momentum. That is carelessness.
