For a team that had won once in their last ten MLS matches, you would think that goal would have them organised, disciplined, and fighting for every second of what followed.

Instead they allowed Chicago back into it before half time. Maren Haile-Selassie levelled matters in the 38th minute, assisted by Robert Lewandowski. All the momentum the Sounders had built, gone. The standards dropped. The attitude went with it.

The Second Half Started Bright, Then Fell Apart

Joveljić got his second goal three minutes after the restart. A fine individual contribution and Seattle were back in front at 2-1. You would assume that is the moment where accountability kicks in. Where the team holds its shape, competes for every ball, and sees the thing out.

They did not do that. Chicago kept pressing. They kept attacking. The numbers back it up. Chicago had 116 attacks to Seattle's 81. They had 20 shots in total to Seattle's 11. They had 11 shots on target to Seattle's 3. The Sounders goalkeeper made nine saves. Nine. That is not defending. That is surviving. And in the end, they could not even manage that.

Lewandowski headed home in the 81st minute from a Puso Dithejane assist, and suddenly a point that looked impossible for Chicago was theirs. A 2-2 draw that felt, by the final whistle, like a defeat for the home side and a point well earned for the visitors.

Seattle's Form Is a Serious Problem

Listen. One win in ten MLS matches. Eight goals scored. Twenty-one conceded. No clean sheets across that entire sample. Not one. That is not a bad run of form. That is a structural problem. A problem with standards. A problem with accountability at every level of this football club.

Chicago Showed They Can Compete

To be fair to Chicago, and I mean that genuinely here, they were the better side across the 90 minutes by almost every measure. Three wins from their last five MLS matches before this game. A squad that knows how to score. They had both teams scoring in all five of those previous matches, and tonight was no different.

Their substitutions added energy at the right moments. Jonathan Bamba came on at 73 minutes and Sergio Oregel joined him. Puso Dithejane had already been introduced at 63 minutes and it was his involvement that led directly to Lewandowski's equaliser. That is smart game management. That is a bench that contributes.

Lewandowski himself was a constant threat. He created Haile-Selassie's first-half goal and then produced the header that earned Chicago a point. At 81 years old, he is still producing moments of quality when it counts. I mean 81 minutes. You know what I mean.

The Numbers Do Not Lie

Chicago had 13 shots inside the box to Seattle's 7. They had 14 key passes to Seattle's 7. They hit the woodwork once and still came away with only a draw. Seattle's goalkeeper made nine saves and his team still could not hold on. That is unacceptable when you are 2-1 ahead with forty minutes left to play.

Seattle made 16 tackles. They won 34 duels. They competed in patches. But competing in patches is not good enough when you are trying to grind out a result. You compete for ninety minutes or you do not compete at all. End of.

What This Result Means

For Chicago, a point away from home against a side they should have beaten on the balance of play is fine. They move on. They have the attitude and the desire to push on.

For Seattle, this is another opportunity wasted. One win in ten matches in MLS competition coming into this game. A home fixture. A two-goal lead. And they still could not get across the line. The basics of defending a lead, organising properly, and competing for the full ninety minutes are not optional. They are the minimum requirement. Seattle are not meeting that requirement right now, and until someone at this club demands accountability for that, nothing will change.

Joveljić was excellent. Two goals, genuine quality in his finishing. He deserved to be on the winning side. His teammates let him down. That is the honest assessment. No more, no less.
