Wilitty Younoussa of Nantes was booked for a foul in the 50th minute and was substituted off immediately at the 52nd minute, with Balthazar Pierret coming on. It was a messy afternoon for discipline on both sides, but Nantes managed the chaos better.

Nantes Dominated the Shot Count

The statistics back up what the eye tells you. Nantes had ten total shots to Nancy's two. Eight of those Nantes efforts came from inside the box compared to just one from Nancy. Nantes put two shots on target. Nancy put zero on target. The goalkeeper at the Nancy end made one save across the entire ninety minutes.

Listen, when your opponents manage zero shots on target, you do not need to do much more than stay organised and take your one big chance. That is exactly what Nantes did. Robinet took it. End of.

The thing is, Nantes were actually more dangerous in attack than their single goal suggests. They registered 32 dangerous attacks to Nancy's 16, completed five accurate crosses from 15 attempted, and created one clear big chance in the match, which they converted. Nancy created none. Zero. That is not bad luck. That is a failure to compete in the areas that matter.

Defensive Standards Finally Met

The clean sheet will mean more to Nantes than the victory itself, given the context. Coming into this fixture, Nantes had conceded eleven goals across four Ligue 2 matches, including a 5-2 defeat to Rodez and a 3-3 draw with Guingamp in which they let a lead slip. Their clean sheet percentage across that sample was zero. Nothing. A back line leaking at will.

Against Nancy, Nantes made ten interceptions and won 32 duels compared to Nancy's 26. They tackled twelve times to Nancy's nine. The defensive work rate was there. When you put the effort in at both ends of the pitch, results follow. That is not a complicated idea. It just requires attitude and desire from every single player.

Nancy, to their credit, had shown some solid form coming in. Across their last five Ligue 2 matches before tonight, they had recorded three wins, a draw, and a single defeat, with a clean sheet percentage of 60 per cent. They had beaten Dunkerque 2-0 and Pau 1-0 in their two most recent outings. None of that matters when you go down to ten men and produce two total shots.

Three Injuries Hanging Over Nantes
