Győri came out and threw everything at Víkingur after the break. The stats show 70 dangerous attacks for the home side across the whole game. That is relentless. And they got their equaliser on 55 minutes when Víkingur scored... wait no, that was Víkingur again. Győri did pull one back at some point to make it 2-2 on the night, but the damage from the first leg and that own goal had already done them. What This Means Going Forward

Look at the fixtures ahead and Víkingur will feel good about themselves. They came to Hungary, went behind via a penalty, scored twice through left footed efforts, conceded an own goal they probably did not deserve, and left with a point on the night and progress on aggregate. Not bad for a side from Iceland's capital going up against a Hungarian outfit with Champions League ambitions.

For Győri this is a brutal exit. They had so much more of everything in terms of possession and territory across both legs, and they have nothing to show for it. The defensive organisation let them down at crucial moments. An own goal in first half stoppage time is the kind of thing that demoralises an entire crowd, let alone the players on the pitch.

The discipline was also a major issue. Six yellow cards in one game in European competition is asking for trouble in future rounds. Had this tie gone to extra time, Győri would have been frantic and under-strength in terms of temperament if not personnel.

Honestly, Víkingur were the smarter side over two legs. Sometimes being outplayed but being organised and clinical is worth more than all the crosses and attacks in the world.
