Raimondo Hat-Trick Blows Sassuolo Away: Frosinone 4-2

SportSignals Match Desk · Football analysis desk ·

Frosinone 4-2 Sassuolo. Write it down. That scoreline does not flatter Frosinone one bit. They were better. They competed harder. They executed the basics when it mattered. And Antonio Raimondo gave Sassuolo a night they will want to forget in a hurry.

The First Half Said Everything

Giacomo Calò opened the scoring with a right-foot shot in the ninth minute. Good. The right start. But then Sassuolo came back immediately. Domenico Berardi, assisted by Darryl Bakola, levelled with a left-foot shot in the 15th minute. Fine. Sassuolo showed they had quality. That was not in question.

What was in question was whether they had the desire to stay in a fight. They did not. Frosinone went straight back at them. Raimondo put Frosinone back in front with a right-foot shot in the 26th minute. Then he did it again in the 30th minute. Two goals in four minutes. That is not system. That is hunger. That is a striker who wanted it more than the men trying to stop him.

Listen, Kristian Thorstvedt pulled one back for Sassuolo with a left-foot shot in the 37th minute, assisted by Sebastiano Esposito. So it was 3-2 at half time. Sassuolo had a sniff. They had the possession. They had 58 per cent of the ball. They had more passes. They had more of everything that looks good on paper.

The thing is, the ball does not go in the net on paper. End of.

Raimondo Killed It Early in the Second Half

Any hope Sassuolo had of coming back lasted exactly twelve minutes into the second half. Raimondo completed his hat-trick in the 57th minute with another right-foot shot. 4-2. Game over. Sassuolo had three different managers make four substitutions between the 58th and 68th minutes. Kieron Bowie came on for Thorstvedt. Benja Dominguez replaced Esposito. Luca Lipani came on for Nemanja Matic. Rafael Obrador Burguera replaced Josh Doig.

Four changes in ten minutes. That is panic. That is a manager who knew his team had nothing left to offer in their starting shape. You do not shuffle the deck that aggressively if you believe in what you had out there.

Bowie then picked up a yellow card for a foul in the 82nd minute. So the man they brought on to fix things immediately became a problem. That sums up Sassuolo's evening completely.

What the Numbers Actually Tell You

Frosinone had 21 shots to Sassuolo's 14. Ten of those Frosinone shots were on target. Six for Sassuolo. Frosinone created five big chances and missed one. Sassuolo created two. Frosinone won 44 duels. Sassuolo won 41. In a match where Sassuolo had 58 per cent of the ball, Frosinone still generated more dangerous attacks. Fifty-nine to 42.

I don't need a laptop to read that. Frosinone were more dangerous. Frosinone were more clinical. Frosinone wanted the three points more. The possession numbers flattered Sassuolo and told you nothing useful about what was actually happening on that pitch.

Frosinone had 20 tackles to Sassuolo's 17. They won 11 of them. They made 10 interceptions. They competed for everything. The basics were there. The accountability was there. The attitude was exactly what you want from a home side that has something to prove.

Sassuolo's Problems Are Not Going Away

Sassuolo arrived in this match having scored nine goals and conceded eight across their last five Serie A matches. Every single one of those five games saw both teams score. Every one. A clean sheet was not just unlikely for Sassuolo. It was apparently impossible.

Tonight continued that trend exactly. They cannot keep the ball out of their net. Berardi and Thorstvedt showed they have the quality to hurt teams going forward. But a side that concedes eight goals in five matches and then travels away and ships four more has a defensive problem that is structural. It is not a one-off. It is a pattern. It is unacceptable at this level.

They also came into this match carrying injury problems. Three players were noted as out, including one with a major injury not expected back until January 2027. That context exists. But I am not interested in excuses. Other teams deal with injuries. You put eleven men on the pitch and you compete. Sassuolo did not do that for large portions of this game.

Frosinone Deserve Credit. All of It.

Frosinone had lost to Napoli 3-0 in their most recent Serie A match before this one. That was a chastening result. A big defeat at home. Some squads go into their next game carrying that. You can see it in the body language. You can see it in the first tackle, whether a player really puts his foot in or pulls out.

Frosinone put their foot in. From the ninth minute, they were at it. Calò got them going. Then Raimondo took over. Three goals. Each one a right-foot shot. Each one a statement. He was taken off in the 90th minute for Daniel Birligea once the game was long won. That is how you manage a performance like that. You protect your man. You give him his ovation.

Sassuolo's goalkeeper made six saves. Six. And still conceded four. That tells you everything about the volume and quality of what Frosinone produced.

The Verdict

Frosinone were the better side. They had more desire, more accountability, and a centre-forward who took his chances with ruthless efficiency. Three goals from three right-foot shots. Simple, direct, devastating. That is what the basics look like when a team commits to them fully.

Sassuolo have real quality in their squad. Berardi showed that with his goal. Esposito set up Thorstvedt's finish. The talent is there. But talent without organisation and defensive standards is just entertainment. And Sassuolo are entertaining teams they should not be entertaining. That has to stop. Their manager will know it. The players will know it. Whether they do anything about it is the question.

Frosinone 4-2 Sassuolo. Raimondo hat-trick. Dominant home performance. No arguments. End of.
