København 4-1 Inter Turku: Danes Cruise Into Next Round With Dominant Second-Leg Display

The Basics Were There. Inter Turku's Weren't.

Listen, at 2-0 on the night, with the first leg having ended goalless, Inter Turku were staring down the barrel. They needed a miracle. What they got was a penalty against them.

A VAR check on 65 minutes involving Jasse Tuominen led to a penalty being awarded to Inter Turku on 69 minutes. To be fair, that gave them a lifeline. Tuominen stepped up and converted. 2-1. For about nine minutes, you could almost convince yourself this had a chance of getting interesting. Almost.

William Clem ended any lingering doubt on 78 minutes. A right-foot shot, assisted by Mohamed Elyounoussi. 3-1. København were not stopping. They had the standards and the desire that Inter Turku completely lacked, and they ran the game from start to finish after that point.

The Finishing Touch

In stoppage time, Prosper Ahiabu put the ball into his own net. 4-1. The cruelest way to end a match, but entirely fitting given how the night had gone for Inter Turku. Ahiabu had come on as a substitute on 71 minutes and gifted the hosts a fourth. That is the kind of night it was for the Finnish side.

The scoreline was emphatic. It was deserved. København hit the woodwork once as well, so it could have been worse. Their goalkeeper made just one save all evening. Inter Turku's keeper made five. Those numbers say everything.

What the Stats Tell You

I do not need a laptop to see what happened here, but the numbers back up what the eyes told you. København had 61 dangerous attacks to Inter Turku's 35. They created four big chances and missed two of them. Inter Turku created two big chances and missed one. In a match this one-sided, Inter Turku's only goal came from the spot after a VAR review. That is the reality of their attacking contribution.

København's tackling was relentless. Twenty-four tackles to Inter Turku's seventeen. Fourteen interceptions to nine. They competed for every second ball and they were sharper in the final third by some distance. Fifteen key passes against four. That gap does not happen by accident. It happens when a team has proper standards and the accountability to see them through.

Inter Turku did actually complete more successful dribbles than Copenhagen, twelve to ten, and had a slightly better passing accuracy in their own half. Small comfort. You cannot point to those numbers when you have shipped four goals and been out-shot four to one.

Where Inter Turku Fell Short

The thing is, Inter Turku came into this match with a decent record in this competition. Across their seven completed Conference League matches before tonight, they had not lost once. Three wins, four draws. Solid. Defensively disciplined. You could see why they felt they had a chance.

But there is a difference between not losing and being able to go toe-to-toe with a side that is genuinely better than you and determined to prove it on their own ground. Inter Turku's two yellow cards in two minutes before half-time told you the pressure had got to them. Once Madsen scored four minutes into the second half, the heads went. You could see it coming.

FC København progress. End of. They were the dominant side across the ninety minutes and the scoreline reflects that accurately. Three wins from five completed Conference League matches coming in, with thirteen goals scored. Tonight they added four more. The attacking output is there. The defensive organisation held firm for most of the contest despite conceding from the spot.
