Bodø / Glimt 3-2 Sandefjord result, stats and report

Bodø / Glimt got the job done. But it was messier than it needed to be. A dominant performance for large stretches of this Eliteserien fixture somehow turned into a nervy finish, with Sandefjord pulling two goals back late on before Glimt secured a 3-2 win that their overall display deserved, even if the manner of the closing stages did not.

First Half: Glimt in Control, Hauge Opens the Scoring

The pattern of the match was clear from early on. Bodø / Glimt were on the front foot, pushing possession, pressing high, and creating problems Sandefjord simply could not handle. They finished the match with 65 per cent of the ball and 28 shots in total. Sandefjord managed ten. That is not a contest. That is target practice.

Jens Petter Hauge opened the scoring on 34 minutes, finishing from the right foot with Ole Didrik Blomberg providing the assist. It was deserved. Glimt had been knocking on the door and Hauge gave them the reward they had earned. Sandefjord were already picking up yellow cards in frustration, with Jakob Dunsby booked for a foul on 23 minutes and Ervin Gigovic and Foster Apetorgbor both cautioned in the 37th and 38th minutes respectively. Three yellows before half-time tells you everything about Sandefjord's attitude in the first half. They were rattled and they were reacting to being rattled in the wrong way.

Second Half: Helmersen Takes Over

Glimt came out after the break and finished the argument quickly. Andreas Helmersen scored on 54 minutes, left foot, assisted by Hauge. Four minutes later, Helmersen scored again. Same foot, same supplier. Two goals in four minutes. The match looked dead and buried at 3-0.

The thing is, Glimt then took their foot off the gas. You can see it in the numbers. Sandefjord had 70 per cent of their ball-safe actions after the changes were made. Glimt substituted Hauge off on 63 minutes along with two other players, and the momentum shifted. That is not a coincidence.

Jakob Dunsby, who had already picked up a yellow card in the first half, pulled one back for Sandefjord on 69 minutes. Left foot. Assisted by Mathias Sauer, who had come on as a substitute moments earlier. A consolation. Or so it seemed.

Late Drama and a Nervy Finish

Glimt continued to make changes. Haitam Aleesami and Ola Brynhildsen came on at 76 minutes. Reasonable enough. But Sandefjord, to their credit, kept competing. Evangelos Patoulidis, introduced as a substitute on 82 minutes, scored in the 90th minute. Right foot, assisted by Gigovic. Suddenly it was 3-2 and there were nerves in Bodø.

Glimt held on. But there is a question worth asking. When you are 3-0 up against a side that had one win in their previous ten Eliteserien matches, you close the game out. You do not give them a route back in. You do not let substitutes who have been on the pitch for eight minutes score goals against you. That is a standards issue. End of.

The Numbers Tell the Story

Look at the gap between these two sides in the key basics. Glimt had ten shots on target. Sandefjord had four. Glimt had 124 dangerous attacks. Sandefjord had 29. Glimt completed 652 passes at 91 per cent accuracy. Sandefjord completed 319 at 82 per cent. In every area that matters, Glimt were superior. They hit the woodwork once on top of their three goals. They had ten accurate crosses to Sandefjord's three.

Sandefjord were also missing two suspended players for this match, which did them no favours. They came into this fixture having won just once in their previous five Eliteserien matches, with two draws and two defeats. They had conceded four goals on the previous occasion they visited Bodø for a league match, losing 3-0. There was no realistic expectation of anything here from the visitors.

And yet they scored twice in the final 21 minutes. That is on Glimt. When you have a match by the throat at 3-0, you squeeze. You do not allow a team with that record and that confidence level to come back at you. The basics of game management demand more accountability than Glimt showed in those closing stages.

Helmersen the Standout, Hauge the Architect

Credit where it is due. Andreas Helmersen was excellent. Two goals, both from the left foot, both assisted by Hauge. He was decisive when the chance came to him and he took his goals with composure. Hauge himself had a strong showing before his substitution, contributing an assist and driving the tempo throughout the first half and into the second.

Glimt's five-match winning run in the Eliteserien continues. Over their last ten league matches they have won nine and drawn one, conceding only seven goals. That is a side with genuine standards and genuine desire to compete. The concern is purely about concentration and discipline in the closing stages of matches they have already won. That is a habit you want to stamp out early. A 3-2 scoreline against a struggling Sandefjord should have been a 3-0 with twenty minutes of controlled football. It was not. That is the one mark against an otherwise convincing afternoon's work.

Sandefjord go back to their own problems. Over their last ten Eliteserien matches they have one win, four draws and five defeats. That is a side that is not competing at the required level. One goal from a sub in the 90th minute does not change that picture. It just made the scoreline look kinder than the performance deserved. Glimt win, Glimt move on. But tighten up in the final twenty minutes. That is not too much to ask.
