Mihajlo Cvetkovic Opens the Scoring From the Spot

Anderlecht's keeper barely had a save to make of any consequence. Kairat's keeper made nine saves and still conceded three. That tells you the nature of the contest.

Kairat's Discipline Was Unacceptable

Kairat finished the match with four yellow cards. Three of those came in the first 35 minutes through foul play. Lev Kurgin then collected a booking in the 86th minute for holding as the evening continued to unravel. That is a collective failure of discipline and attitude. You do not give away that many fouls in the opening exchanges of a European tie and then expect to build any foothold in the match. The referee is going to clamp down and the opposition is going to punish you. Both things happened.

Noah Kalonji also picked up a yellow for Anderlecht in the 87th minute, which is the only minor blemish on a near-perfect evening for the home side. Careless, given the match was long since won, but it barely registers against the broader picture.
