Let me be straight with you. Al Ettifaq were beaten, beaten well, and beaten in their own ground. Al Draih came here with a purpose. They competed from the first whistle and Al Ettifaq had no answer for it. That is the long and short of it.

How It Unfolded

Al Draih were ahead inside eight minutes. Darwin Núñez finished with his right foot, assisted by Óscar Rodríguez. Eight minutes in at home and you are already chasing the game. That is no way to start. That is a standards problem.

Al Ettifaq were forced into a substitution as early as the 27th minute, Meshal Al-Sibyani coming on for Radhi Al-Otaibi. Whether that was tactical or something else, the disruption did not help a side already behind and rattled. And within minutes of the second half, it got worse. Meshal Al-Sibyani, the man who had just come on, picked up a yellow card for a foul in the 49th minute. You cannot afford that kind of start to the second half when you are chasing three points.

Then Adil Boulbina made it two with a left-foot finish on 53 minutes, again assisted by Óscar Rodríguez. The thing is, that was the moment the game died as a contest. Al Ettifaq had nothing left to offer in response. Their bench was scrambled. Three substitutions came in a rush between the 54th and 59th minutes, Khalid Al-Ghannam, Rayane Messi, Hattan Bahebri, and Mohamed Hameran all introduced. Four changes in the space of five minutes. That is panic. That is not a plan.

Núñez put the result beyond any doubt on 81 minutes, finishing again with his right foot from a Clayton Diandy assist. Al Ettifaq had goalkeeper saves keeping the scoreline from being worse. The final whistle confirmed a 3-0 defeat on home soil. Unacceptable.

Listen, I do not need a laptop to see what happened here. But the numbers back up what the eyes show.

Al Draih generated 58 attacks to Al Ettifaq's 33. Dangerous attacks: 31 for Al Draih, 14 for Al Ettifaq. Al Draih had 15 shots inside the box compared to Al Ettifaq's 11. They had more possession, 54 per cent to 46 per cent, and they used it better. Al Draih completed 384 passes at a 90 per cent accuracy rate. Al Ettifaq managed 315 at 86 per cent. Al Draih also put in 20 crosses with six landing accurately. Al Ettifaq managed nine crosses and only one was accurate. One. That is not a crossing department, that is a liability.

Six offsides for Al Ettifaq tells its own story. They were disorganised going forward, rushing, getting their timing wrong. That comes from a team that does not have a clear head. You do not make those basics errors six times in one match if your attitude and organisation are right.

Al Ettifaq's goalkeeper made seven saves. That number is not a badge of honour for the goalkeeper. It is an indictment of the defensive unit in front of him. Al Draih put Al Ettifaq's stopper to work and kept their own keeper relatively comfortable, despite facing seven shots on target. Both sides hit the woodwork twice, which adds a small footnote, but the result was never in serious doubt once Boulbina scored early in the second half.

Accountability Time for Al Ettifaq

In their five most recent Saudi Pro League matches before this one, Al Ettifaq had won two, drawn one, and lost two. They conceded nine goals across those five matches. Nine goals against means you have a defensive problem that is not being fixed. A clean sheet percentage of 20 per cent in that sample tells you everything. The back line is not doing its job.

The thing is, Al Ettifaq had beaten Al Fateh 1-0 and put four past Al Riyadh in their previous two outings. There might have been some confidence coming into this. But confidence without discipline is dangerous. Al Draih pressed that and found it wanting immediately.

Al Ettifaq were also coming off a 2-3 defeat to Al Nassr four days before this. That is back-to-back losses now. Six goals conceded across two matches. The desire to put things right here was not evident in the performance. Not from where I am sitting.

Credit Where It Is Due to Al Draih

Al Draih arrived having won one, drawn one, and lost one across their three most recent Saudi Pro League matches. This was not a side in blistering form. But they came here with the right attitude and the right basics in place.

Darwin Núñez was the match-winner. Two goals, both well taken, and he was a threat throughout. Óscar Rodríguez was the creative force, picking up assists on the first two goals. Adil Boulbina took his chance clinically on 53 minutes. These players executed when it mattered. That is all you can ask.

Al Draih won 34 duels to Al Ettifaq's 29. They competed harder in the physical battle. That is not a coincidence. That is desire. That is a team that wanted it more on the day. End of.
