Slaven Koprivnica vs Gorica Preview: Two Winless Sides, One Desperate for a First Point
Elena Santos ·
Last updated 20 August 2026. Right, we are two days out from this one and honestly... I've been staring at this data for a while now and I cannot decide if this is the most predictable game of the weekend or the most unpredictable. Slaven Koprivnica vs Gorica. Croatian 1. HNL. Saturday 22 August, kick off 17:30 UK time. Two teams. Zero points between them in the 2026 season. Absolute scenes.
The State of Play
Look at the table. Slaven Koprivnica sit ninth, Gorica eighth. Both on zero points after three games. Both have conceded a combined sixteen goals already this season. This is a relegation six-pointer in August, mate. August! The season is three games old and these two are already in a mini-crisis. Whoever loses this one is going to be properly rattled.
Koprivnica's season so far reads played three, won none, lost three, one goal scored, nine conceded. That goal difference of minus eight is genuinely painful to look at. Gorica are not much better. Played three, won none, lost three, two scored, seven against. They've got a slightly less horrifying goal difference but we are splitting hairs at this point. Neither side has found a single point yet.
Slaven Koprivnica: A Crisis in Their Own Back Garden
Here is the thing about Koprivnica that jumps out at me. Their home form over the last five matches reads LLWDD. Not great, but there is a pulse there. They've managed a win and two draws at home recently. Compare that to their overall last five which is just LLLLL across the board. All five losses. Two goals scored. Fifteen conceded. That is a side being torn apart every single week.
The injury situation is not helping at all. Koprivnica have five long-term absentees right now, and several of them have been out since late 2024 or early 2025. These are not fresh knocks before a big game. These are players who have been missing for months. The squad is threadbare and it shows in the numbers.
At home they have averaged 44 shots per game recently, which sounds like a lot until you clock they only average 34 percent possession overall. Something is a bit off with that data, but even taking it with a pinch of salt, the BTTS rate at home sits at 80 percent over their last five home games. Over 2.5 goals has come in 80 percent of the time at home too. This ground produces goals. Both ways.
Momentum slope? Minus 0.3 at home. It is trending the wrong way. The fans are going to be nervous before kick off, not buzzing.
Gorica: Travelling Poorly, Struggling Everywhere
Gorica's away form is the stuff of nightmares. Last five away from home: LLLWL. One win in five on the road. Three goals scored away, eight conceded. Clean sheet percentage away from home? Zero. They have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last five away games.
Look at their overall momentum slope and it is sitting at minus 0.2 across ten games. They are trending downward. Their home form is actually a bit more respectable if you go back ten games, but we are not playing this at Gorica's place. They have to travel to Koprivnica, and away from home they are a mess.
Over ten away games their BTTS rate is 42.86 percent. It is not overwhelming. But the over 2.5 goals rate away from home drops to just 28.57 percent in that same window. So Gorica away tends to be low scoring when you look at the bigger sample. Interesting tension there with Koprivnica's home numbers.
Head to Head: Minimal History
There is only one previous meeting on record between these two, back in May 2026. Koprivnica won it 1-0. Clean sheet for the home side. Zero goals for Gorica. The only head to head we have points toward a tight, low scoring game. But I would not put too much weight on a single result. The form we are seeing right now from both teams suggests this could go very differently.
The xG Thing (Bear With Me)
Right so Marcus would love this bit. There is some xG data kicking around and... I actually looked at the numbers for once. Over their last ten overall games, Koprivnica's xG for is 5 but they have scored 9. They are massively overperforming their expected goals. That kind of thing tends to correct itself. Gorica's away xG over ten games shows 2 for and 5 against. They are expected to struggle to score and expected to concede. That is just xG by the way, which is a fancy way of saying shots from good positions that a computer has decided should go in. Don't @ me for using it. I needed it here.
The Vibe Check
Honestly? The vibes are bleak for both sets of fans. Two clubs staring at a blank points column, two clubs with shaky defences, and a home side who are playing in front of their own supporters and desperately need something to show for it. Koprivnica at home might just nick this. The pressure on Gorica to perform away from home when they cannot keep a clean sheet on the road is enormous.
There is also the sheer context of this being the bottom of the table. These are not two comfortable mid-table sides meeting for a nothing game. Both managers will be under pressure. That kind of desperation can either produce a scrappy, tight game or a chaotic open one. Given the defensive records on show here, I am leaning toward chaos.
Jay's Take and the Saturday Special Update
I'm going big on this. Koprivnica to win. Home advantage, they have had some decent home results recently in that five game window, and Gorica simply cannot keep it tight on the road. I fancy at least three goals in this one as well, the home BTTS and over 2.5 numbers at Koprivnica are hard to ignore. Gorica will score something because Koprivnica are shipping goals for fun, but I think the home side edge it.
Koprivnica win. Both teams to score. You heard it here first. Back to the drawing board if it ends 0-0. It won't though. These two cannot keep clean sheets to save their lives right now. Trust the process. No, actually, do not trust the process. Both defences are terrible. That is the process.
Keep an eye out for any late team news before Saturday's 17:30 kick off. Koprivnica's injury list is long and could still shift things. But as it stands, home win, goals aplenty. Let's go.
