Beveren's Leaky Defence Faces a Lommel Side With Points to Prove

Friday night football in the Belgian Pro League. SK Beveren at home. Lommel SK coming to town. On paper this is a mid-table scrap with nothing glamorous about it. The thing is, these are the matches that tell you everything about a squad's character. Who wants it. Who competes. Who folds when it matters.

I have looked at the numbers. I have looked at the results. And I will tell you plainly what I see.

Listen, you can have a good day against Anderlecht. Upsets happen. But when you are conceding four goals in back-to-back matches at home, something is badly wrong with your shape, your attitude, or both. I am not interested in excuses. The numbers are the numbers.

Beveren have kept two clean sheets in those five matches. That 40 per cent figure sounds decent until you realise the goals-against total is ten. The maths does not add up to a side with a reliable defensive structure. They are swinging between shutouts and capitulations. That is not a team with standards. Lommel Are Doing the Simple Things Better

They also carry a 40 per cent clean sheet rate, but with only three goals against them across five matches, their defensive numbers carry real weight compared to Beveren's.

The form string reads LWWLD. Two consecutive wins in the middle of that run, including a 4-0 victory over Westerlo and a 1-0 win against Cercle Brugge, show a side capable of genuine quality. They did lose to Club Brugge 0-1 in their most recent match, and they lost 0-1 to Sporting Charleroi earlier in the sample. Both narrow defeats. Both one-goal margins. That is a side that competes even when they lose.

The thing is, losing 0-1 to Club Brugge is not a disaster. That tells me Lommel can organise themselves. They do not ship four-goal thrashings. They stay in matches. They make teams work. That is the foundation of a side with the right attitude.

Where This Match Gets Won

That can go one of two ways. Either they respond with a performance that shows real desire, or they carry that result with them onto the pitch on Friday night. I back them to respond. My Read on Friday Night
