Two Sides in Freefall: Can Valladolid's Home Comforts Save Them Against a Winless Albacete?

There are bad runs of form and then there is whatever is happening at Real Valladolid and Albacete right now. Sunday's La Liga 2 fixture at Valladolid is not exactly appointment television for the neutral. But if you want to understand what a team looks like when its basics have gone completely, watch this one. Both clubs are producing exactly the kind of football that makes me want to switch channels and go for a walk.

Valladolid: Not Good Enough at Home, Simple as That

Real Valladolid have taken one win, one draw, and three defeats from their last five La Liga 2 matches. That is not a blip. That is a pattern. In those five games they have scored twice and conceded five. The thing is, you can live with a goal here and there going against you. What you cannot accept is the complete inability to put the ball in the net. Three matches in that sample ended with Valladolid scoring zero goals.

They beat FC Andorra 1-0 at the start of September. That is their one bright spot. Before that, a 1-1 draw with Cádiz and then three straight defeats, including losses to Eibar, Mallorca, and Almería. Mallorca beat them 2-0. That is the kind of result that tells you everything about where a side is at. No creativity. No end product. No desire to do the ugly things required to grind out a result.

Listen, across their last ten La Liga 2 matches the numbers do not improve. Three wins, one draw, six defeats. Thirteen goals conceded in ten games. They are clearly not. But because Albacete are in a worse state and turning up at a ground where the home side at least has some reason to believe they can get something.
