Club Brugge vs Cercle Brugge Preview: The Bruges Derby Kicks Off With One Side Looking Untouchable

Last updated 16 August 2026. Right, we are seven days out from the Bruges derby and I have to be honest with you... I am not sure Cercle Brugge fancy this one at all. Club Brugge are absolutely cooking right now and this fixture has banana skin written all over it. For Cercle. Not Brugge. Let me explain.

Club Brugge: This Is Getting Silly

Look at the fixtures, look at the home form. Ten home games in the league. Ten wins. Zero losses. Zero draws. Thirty-nine goals scored at home in the last ten. Seven conceded. That is not a typo. Thirty-nine goals and seven conceded. The clean sheet rate at home over the last five is 80%. Their last five home games they have scored 21 goals and let in... one. One single goal. Honestly, who is doing it like this right now? Club Brugge are genuinely frightening at the Jan Breydel.

They are top of the Belgian Pro League table after two games, six points, six goals scored, none conceded. The xG numbers, and yes I know what xG is, it stands for... actually you know what Marcus can explain it, but even those numbers back them up. The data sheet shows 7.4 xG for and only 1.7 against in the opening two games. That gap is enormous. This team are not just winning, they are dominating.

The only minor concern for Nicky Hayen's side is a couple of injuries flagged in the squad. There is a player out with a major injury since July and another with a minor knock picked up at the end of July, both with no return date confirmed yet. We do not have names available at this stage but one major absentee is worth keeping an eye on as we get closer to Sunday. Even so, with that home form, you would have to lose half the squad to worry too much.

Cercle Brugge: The Numbers Are Not Kind

Now here is the thing about Cercle. They are not a bad side in isolation. Overall in their last ten games they have gone W5 D3 L2, which is actually decent. They have scored 25 goals in those ten games. There is attacking quality in this team. But... and it is a big but... look at what happens when they travel. Away from home in their last five? Two wins, two draws, one loss. Goals for 12, goals against 11. That is a lot of goals flying about both ways. Their away clean sheet percentage over those five games is zero. Literally zero. They have not kept a single clean sheet on the road in their last five.

And their overall momentum right now is heading in the wrong direction. Their last five overall reads W1 D2 L2 with a goals against of 13. The momentum slope is negative across pretty much every context. They come into this derby carrying a bit of a wobble. That is not the form you want when you are walking into what is essentially a fortress.

There is also a long-term injury in the Cercle camp, a player who has been out since January with no return date set. Long-term absence like that disrupts your planning, your rhythm, your squad depth. Not ideal.

The head to head is thin, only one recorded meeting in the data, but Club Brugge won that 2-0 back in August 2025 and kept a clean sheet. You heard it here first... history is repeating itself unless Cercle do something remarkable on Sunday.

Right, this is where it gets interesting for the betting angles. Cercle's away BTTS rate over their last five is 100%. Every single away game, both teams have scored. That is madness. BUT. Club Brugge at home over the last five have a BTTS rate of just 20%. Because they are keeping clean sheets for fun. So we have an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object, sort of. The question is whether Cercle can actually nick one at the Jan Breydel when Club Brugge have been so dominant defensively at home. I reckon Brugge win comfortably and keep it clean. But the little voice in the back of my head is going... Cercle always score on the road, mate. Always.

Jay's Take and Betting Angles

Club Brugge to win this is the obvious call and honestly it should be priced accordingly. They are the most in-form home side in the league, facing a team with negative momentum, no clean sheets away, and a long-term injury in the squad. It is not complicated.

I'm going big on this... Club Brugge win and over 2.5 goals. Here is my thinking. Brugge are scoring for fun at home, 39 in ten games, that is nearly four a game. Even if Cercle nick one with their road warrior tendencies, Brugge will have already gone three or four up by then. The over 2.5 has landed in 80% of Brugge's home games over the last ten and 100% of Cercle's away games. Those two facts together make over 2.5 feel almost nailed on. Don't @ me.

If you want a cheeky correct score punt for the acca, I am looking at Club Brugge 3-0 or 4-0. Yes those are big odds. Yes I will probably be wrong. Back to the drawing board is my brand at this point but the data genuinely points that way. Last season Brugge won the only meeting 2-0. This season they look even better at home. A clean sheet feels very realistic.

For the BTTS market, I am actually going no on this one. I know Cercle score on the road but Brugge's home defensive record is just too good to ignore. 80% clean sheet rate in the last five at home is not something you throw out of the window because of away BTTS trends. Brugge shut this one out.

Prediction

Club Brugge 3-0 Cercle Brugge. The home side are just a different level right now. Cercle will have their moments, they always do, but the gap in current form and home fortress vibes is too much to overcome. Scenes at the Jan Breydel, and not the kind Cercle fans will be celebrating.

Club Brugge win probability: around 75 to 80%. Draw: 12 to 15%. Cercle win: 8 to 10%. Those numbers basically tell you everything you need to know. The only shock here would be Cercle nicking a draw and even then you would need Brugge to have a very off day.
