Listen, there is no clever way to dress this up. Cercle Brugge have not won in their last five Belgian Pro League matches. Three defeats. Two draws. Five goals scored. Ten conceded. That is a defensive record that would embarrass a Sunday league outfit, never mind a professional football club. Zero clean sheets across those five matches. Not one.

The thing is, it gets worse when you look at how those losses happened. Cercle lost to Gent 3-0 at home. They lost to Lommel SK 1-0. They lost to Club Brugge 1-0. Three consecutive defeats where they failed to score a single goal. That is not a run of bad luck. That is a team that has stopped competing properly. That is unacceptable. End of.

Stretch it out to ten matches and Anderlecht have kept two clean sheets from ten. The goals against column reads seventeen. So the solidity over five matches is a recent thing. Whether it holds is the real question. Attitude and standards can go either way when you have been this inconsistent.

Cercle Brugge are a side without confidence, without goals, and without the defensive standards required to grind out results when things are going badly. Until someone at that club holds the players accountable for the basics, they will keep losing. Saturday looks like another one.
