Castellón Host Ceuta With Momentum on Their Side, But Questions Remain at the Back

Sunday brings La Liga 2 football to Castellón, and on paper this looks like a home win waiting to happen. Look a little deeper, though, and you will find a match with more texture than the surface suggests. Castellón are not pulling up trees. Ceuta are in freefall. Something has to give.

Castellón: Solid Enough, No More

Two wins, two draws and one loss from their last five La Liga 2 matches. That is a decent return. Castellón beat Celta Fortuna 2-1 most recently, and before that they took a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad II. The basics are being executed. They are competing. That counts for something.

Stretch the window to ten matches and the picture holds. Four wins, four draws and two losses. Twelve goals scored, ten conceded. The thing is, that clean sheet record is a concern. Castellón have kept clean sheets in just 30 per cent of their last ten La Liga 2 outings. They kept one in that 0-0 with Sabadell and another in the win over Real Sociedad II, but they are not a side that keeps the door shut with any real authority or conviction.

The head of that injury list also deserves a mention. Castellón have a player out with a major injury, expected back in February 2027. That is a long-term absence that has been in place since July. You do not know exactly what that costs a squad without the team sheet in front of you, but a major long-term absence always tests standards and squad depth. It is a fact and it matters.

Expand to ten matches and Ceuta have shipped eighteen goals. Eighteen. Their BTTS percentage over ten matches sits at 50 per cent, but the real story is the volume conceded. When they lose, they do not just lose. They get beaten badly.

They did win two matches back in May, beating Albacete 1-0 and FC Andorra 2-0. But those results feel like a different team, a different period. What Ceuta have shown in the three most recent La Liga 2 matches is a side with no defensive organisation and nothing resembling a competitive backbone at this level right now. End of.

Head to Head: One Meeting, One Draw

These two sides have met once in La Liga 2 before this fixture. Back in May, the match between Castellón and Ceuta finished 1-1. Both sides scored. Neither kept a clean sheet. It was tight and even on that occasion.

The thing is, I do not need to overcomplicate this. Castellón are not brilliant. But they are at home, they are organised enough to compete, and they are facing a Ceuta side that is currently one of the worst defensive units in this division by any measure you care to use.

Castellón's home form shows two wins from five. Their most recent result was a win. They scored two goals in that match and kept a clean sheet is not guaranteed, but Ceuta's attacking output in their last three games was a single goal across three La Liga 2 fixtures. One goal in three games. And that came in a 1-5 defeat.

Ceuta are not scoring. Castellón are conceding but they are also winning. The maths is not complicated. A home win is the call here. One selection, backed with conviction. Castellón to win on Sunday.

If Castellón approach this with the right standards and the right attitude, there is no reason Ceuta should leave with anything. The visitors have shown nothing in their recent form to suggest they are capable of going to a ground with a hostile crowd and getting a result. Their mentality looks shot right now and that is the most damaging thing of all in this game.
