Bremen's Unbeaten Run Meets Hoffenheim's Head-to-Head Hoodoo
SportSignals Match Desk · Football analysis desk ·
Werder Bremen host 1899 Hoffenheim at the Weserstadion on Saturday 31 October 2026, and on paper this looks like a straightforward home banker. Bremen are unbeaten in their last five Bundesliga matches. Hoffenheim have lost three of their last five. The problem is that head-to-head record, and you cannot ignore it.
Bremen's Form: Solid But Leaky
Two wins and three draws from five Bundesliga matches. No defeats. That is a decent platform. The thing is, Werder Bremen have not kept a single clean sheet in that run. Every one of those five matches produced goals at both ends. Every single one. They beat RB Leipzig 3-1, beat FC Augsburg 3-2, and drew with Borussia Dortmund 2-2. They are scoring goals but they are giving them away too, and that is a basic problem that will catch up with you eventually.
Bremen are also carrying significant injury problems heading into this one. Six players are currently out, including one with a long-term injury dating back to March. A major injury absence has been in place since late August. That is not a small number. Squad depth will be tested.
Hoffenheim's Form: Inconsistent and Vulnerable
Hoffenheim arrive with a record of two wins and three losses from five Bundesliga matches. They beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1 most recently, which gives them a bounce of confidence. But before that they lost to Hamburger SV 2-3 and lost to Paderborn 1-3. They also have a zero clean sheet record in this five-match sample. Hoffenheim concede. It is what they do.
Listen, a team that loses 1-3 to Paderborn has questions to answer about attitude and desire. That result tells you something about their mentality. Whether they have addressed it is what Saturday will reveal.
The Head-to-Head Problem for Bremen
Two meetings in this fixture. Hoffenheim have won both. Werder Bremen have scored zero goals across those two games. Hoffenheim have scored three without reply and kept two clean sheets. That is a dominant head-to-head record from the away side, and you do not dismiss it because it does not fit the narrative that Bremen are the form team.
The thing is, Hoffenheim clearly know how to set up against Bremen and make them uncomfortable. Whether that continues on Saturday is another question, but history is history. End of.
Both Teams to Score: The Obvious Story
Sophie would probably point to the defensive shape and I would tell her she is not wrong, but sometimes the numbers are just the numbers. These two teams do not keep clean sheets right now. Accept it.
Connor's View
Bremen are the right side to back here on form and home advantage. The draw no bet on Bremen is available at around 2.15 to 2.20 depending on your book, and that is where my conviction sits. You are protected if it finishes level, and Bremen's unbeaten run plus home support gives them the edge.
I want both teams to score because it is obvious. But I back one thing hard. Draw no bet on Werder Bremen. That is my selection. The head-to-head gives me pause but Hoffenheim's inconsistency and their away record in this sample gives me more confidence in Bremen getting the result. Accountability on the pitch matters. Hoffenheim have not shown enough of it.
