The header on 36 minutes made it three before half-time. GAIS walked in at the break three goals down in a European qualifier. Whatever was said in that dressing room, it clearly made no difference.

The Second Half: No Accountability, No Improvement

GAIS had 13 interceptions, which tells you they were defending deep and scrambling. But 13 interceptions with your back against the wall means nothing if you cannot do anything with the ball when you win it back. Their four offsides tell a story as well. Their forward line was desperate. They were throwing balls in behind hoping something would stick. Nothing did.

The thing is, Nordsjælland's home form in their domestic league over the last ten games reads: six wins, two draws, two losses. They score goals at home. They know how to hurt people in their own stadium. GAIS came here having conceded seven goals in their last five away games in the Swedish league. Seven goals away from home. You look at that number before kick-off and you prepare your side accordingly. Clearly, that did not happen.

A Word on the Cards

Six yellow cards in this match, three apiece. The one I will mention is the GAIS card on 70 minutes for an argument. Your side is five goals down and one of your players is standing arguing with someone. That is the attitude problem in a single image. Standards have to be upheld even when the result has gone. The momentum slope in their away form was already showing a decline of 0.4. That number now looks prophetic. Whatever they had in the first leg, they left it behind. The levels dropped and Nordsjælland punished them without mercy.

Nordsjælland, to their credit, were excellent. Twenty-two shots, 15 key passes, five big chances created. They pressed the basics relentlessly. They competed for every ball.
