Can Napoli Stop the Rot Against a Roma Side That Simply Refuses to Lose?

SportSignals Match Desk · Football analysis desk ·

Listen. Napoli lost at home to Venezia last weekend. Venezia. That tells you everything you need to know about where this club is right now. The basics are not being met. The standards have slipped. And now Roma are coming to town, a side that has not lost a single Serie A match in their last five. The timing could not be worse for the hosts.

Napoli's Form: Warning Signs All Over the Pitch

Napoli's last five Serie A matches read W, L, D, W, L. Two wins, one draw, two losses. The thing is, the wins were against Frosinone and Bologna. That is not a form guide to build confidence from. Napoli beat Frosinone 3-0, which looks fine on paper. But then they drew 1-1 with Fiorentina and lost 2-3 to Inter before that home defeat to Venezia. That is not the form of a side ready to compete with an in-form Roma.

The injury situation is making a bad picture worse. Napoli have a major absentee not expected back until January 2027, plus several moderate and minor injuries that have piled up across September and October. Multiple players have expected return dates that fall after this weekend. There is no hiding from it: the squad available to the Napoli manager on Saturday is not their strongest. Accountability for results still sits with the players on the pitch, but the depth is clearly being tested.

Roma's Form: Unbeaten and Keeping Clean Sheets

Roma's last five Serie A matches read W, D, D, W, W. Three wins and two draws. No losses. That is not a fluke. That is a side with desire, with attitude, with the mentality to grind out results when they need to.

Roma beat Genoa 2-0 last time out. Before that, they drew 0-0 with Como, which will frustrate some, but they also held Inter to a 2-2 draw. They beat Torino 2-0 and Atalanta 2-1. Roma have kept clean sheets in three of their last five Serie A matches. They are conceding very little and finding ways to win. That is what good sides do.

Roma do have injury concerns of their own, with four players currently unavailable including two moderate injuries and one suspension that has a return date of 18 October, which puts its availability for Saturday in doubt. But their form suggests the squad is functioning well regardless.

The Bet: Roma to Win

The thing is, this is not complicated. One side is wobbling at home after losing to a relegated-quality opponent. The other side is unbeaten, defensively sound, and carrying real momentum. Roma are available at around 2.35 to 2.38 for the away win depending on where you look. That is a price worth taking.

Roma have scored in four of their last five. Napoli have conceded in four of their last five. The away side look the more cohesive unit right now and have nothing to suggest they cannot continue their run at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

I am backing Roma. One bet. No accumulator nonsense. End of.
