But here they were, leading 1-0 against a Luzern side that had created chance after chance and converted none of them.

Listen, when a team that has been cut open repeatedly still manages to score first against you, you have to look at your own standards. Vaduz found a way. Luzern had not, despite having eight shots on target by the final whistle to Vaduz's four.

Toggenburger Settles It in Stoppage Time

Their players arguing in stoppage time. Standards slipping at exactly the wrong moment.

For Luzern, the win is welcome. The finishing has to improve. Five big chances missed in a single match is not a tactical problem or a shape problem. It is an execution problem. It is a standards problem. Toggenburger bailed them out. He came off the bench and delivered the goal when it was needed. Credit where it is due.

But if Luzern are serious about competing consistently in the Swiss Super League, they cannot keep leaving those chances on the pitch. One day the substitute does not score in stoppage time. Then what?
