Debrecen won. One goal. Clean sheet. Job done. That is what this tie will show in the record books and, frankly, that is all that matters in a qualifying round where margins are everything.
Pyunik came to Hungary with momentum and they had the numbers to back it up. Two wins from two in this competition heading in, four goals scored, none conceded. That is a side in form. Debrecen knew what was coming. The question was whether they had the desire to handle it. They did.
The thing is, this game was not as comfortable as the scoreline might suggest. Pyunik created. They were active, they pressed, and they caused problems. Eighteen shots. Six offsides, which tells you they were pushing their runners in behind all afternoon. They hit the woodwork. They had three yellow cards and picked up a card for a foul as early as the 33rd minute. That is a side that was desperate to get back into the game and frustrated at not being able to.
But Debrecen had 107 attacks to Pyunik's 77. They had 54 dangerous attacks to Pyunik's 28. Those are not small margins. That is a home side that was genuinely the more threatening team over the course of 90 minutes, regardless of the shot count being relatively even.
The goal came on 59 minutes. A right-foot shot. Simple. Direct. Executed when it mattered. Five minutes later the goalscorer was taken off, his work done. That is smart management. You get the goal, you protect the result, you do not leave your match-winner exposed to a late challenge.
Pyunik had 18 shots. Three on target. The Debrecen goalkeeper made zero saves. Think about that for a moment. Their keeper was not tested once from any of those shots that actually needed dealing with. The rest were blocked, wide, or over.
They created one big chance. They missed it. That is accountability in the most brutal form. You travel to Hungary, you generate eighteen attempts, you put three on target, and your goalkeeper is the one keeping you in the game by making saves at the other end. That is a backwards football match.

Listen, a clean sheet at this level in European competition is not nothing. Pyunik had scored four goals in their previous two games. Debrecen shut them out. That takes organisation. That takes attitude. That takes a back four and a midfield willing to compete for every second ball.
Debrecen also made 12 interceptions to Pyunik's eight. They were reading the game. They were active without the ball, not just sitting in and hoping. That is the difference between a defensive display built on luck and one built on genuine defensive competence.
Debrecen used their changes smartly. The goalscorer came off at 64 minutes, protected. Three more changes arrived at 73 and 80 minutes. They refreshed their legs, kept their energy levels up, and suffocated any late Pyunik momentum.
Pyunik made a forced change as early as the 29th minute. That is not a tactical tweak. Something went wrong in the first half hour. An injury most likely, given they recorded three injuries on the day against Debrecen's one. When you are making unplanned changes before the half hour mark, your preparation for the rest of the game is already compromised.
